Barry earned the first-round bye after finishing the regular season 9-1-0 in conference play, to claim their second straight regular-season title. It was their sixth regular season conference championship in school history, and the first time they have won back-to-back. The Bucs won behind a strong season-long offensive performance headlined by junior forward David Polanco. Polanco has scored 12 of the Bucs' 36 goals this season, including four if their 10 game-winners. As a team, they averaged 2.4 goals per game, second in the conference behind Rollins. Polanco leads the conference in goals, game-winning goals and points, adding one assist to his total.
In addition to Polanco, the defensive line has been key to the offense, combining for 11 goals, four game-winners and 13 assists. Oier Calvillo leads the league in assists and has added three goals, two of which were game-winners. Iker Berruezo and fellow defender Jean Ghafourian each have three goals as well, with one game-winner and one assist. Lucas Silva has scored twice, with one a game-winner and three assists.
Keeper Rafael Furlani leads the conference in goals against average (0.44) and save percentage (82.1), while posting five solo shutouts to rank second.
The Sharks backed into the tournament field after losing their final two games against Tampa and Lynn. But they came back to tie the Knights in the quarterfinal game 1-1, before advancing on penalty kicks 5-3. Ade Olumyiwa scored first for the Sharks in the 52nd minute before the Knights tied the game in the 68th. Eduardo D'Avino stopped eight shots to preserve the tie, then stopped Lynn's Patrick O'Halloran on the Knights' third kick, while NSU converted all five to advance. [Box Score]
