It’s the rst proper route branding we’ve done in a long, long time – there was some route branding used a decade or so ago but not on the scale we’re doing it now. “We have two colour-coded routes at the minute, but they’ve sort of been a victim of their own success. The six Tempos we have on service 13, the Pink Line, are due to be replaced in the next couple of months by six second-hand Mercedes-Benz Citaros from Trent Barton. They’ve recently ordered another 55 ADL Enviro200 MMCs, some of which will be replacing the Citaros currently used on the Leicester to Derby Skylink service. We were able to work out a deal with ADL to buy six of the Citaros which Trent Barton had part-exchanged against the Enviro200 MMCs. This will allow six of the Optares to move to service 8 Ipswich – Whitehouse, which currently has a PVR of six Enviro200s, in turn displacing six DAF DB250LF double-deckers. “We already had contactless payments, but one thing we did last year was to proactively push it on the buses. We’ve got vinyls now on the vehicles telling people that it’s the easiest way to pay. In October we launched our own mobile phone app, which is something the company had been looking at doing for several years. However, there was never an agreement reached with the so ware companies we were talking to. “We started discussions again with a number of providers more recently but weren’t getting anywhere. We have nally come to a decision regarding the future. Myself and Andrew have taken the decision to retire at the end of September and wind the rm down. Retirement has been in both our minds for some time as we are both into our 70’s now and with the current local authority school and local service bus contracts coming to an end in mid August it seemed like an ideal time to bow out.” Whilst that may be sad news for many, a er such a long career in the industry, Peter has accumulated many stories and memories. National Express has transferred eight hybrid ADL Enviro400 double-deckers from its Xplore Dundee fleet to the National Express West Midlands depot in Wolverhampton. 5422-5430 headed south, and were replaced by Enviro200MMCs 2239-2247 which made the journey north.
