Ecto-Containing In Order

At the end of March I wrote (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, March 30, 2021) how it didn’t occur to me that Sony Pictures might not always upload episodes of The Real Ghostbusters (Ecto-Containment Page) and Extreme Ghostbusters (Ecto-Containment Page) in order of how they originally aired to their Ghostbusters YouTube account.

To date, Sony has uploaded two separate episodes when they celebrated St. Patrick’s Day. In my last post about “out of order” episodes I had decided to embed episodes and order them as how Sony uploaded them.

Since then as I prefer a chronological listing, I’ve rearranged and added official episodes of both series to Ecto-Containment, straight from Ghostbusters YouTube account.

With 7 seasons of The Real Ghostbusters and 40 episodes from Extreme Ghostbusters, I’ve added new pages for organization and faster loading times.

*Edit* September 27, 2021: Restored Episodes pages with official links.

Sony Getting Real Extreme (Not) In Order

I wrote on March 12, 2021 about how Sony Pictures are uploading episodes of The Real Ghostbusters (Ecto-Containment Page) and Extreme Ghostbusters (Ecto-Containment Page) to their Ghostbusters YouTube account.

What didn’t occur to me was that Sony might not always upload episodes in order of how they aired. That’s what happened beginning with St. Patrick’s Day. They added special “holiday” themed episodes from both series.

  • Season 2: Episode 40: The Scaring Of The Green (The Real Ghostbusters)
  • Season 1: Episode 21: The Luck Of The Irish (Extreme Ghostbusters)

I don’t know if they’ll continue to do this. Which had me thinking, well how am I going to order them at Ecto-Containment? For now I’ve decided to list them in the order Sony uploads them. In time I could eventually re-order them by how they aired, either with or without embedding them.

Sony Getting Real Extreme On YouTube

About a month ago Sony Pictures began to upload weekly episodes of The Real Ghostbusters (Ecto-Containment Page) to their Ghostbusters YouTube account. Partially with Ghostbusters Afterlife (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, January 2, 2020) pushed further ahead to November 11, 2021 it makes sense for Sony to add animated episodes to their official YouTube channel while ghostheads wait.

Sony will release a “new” episode on Saturday mornings. Just like in 1980 something! Depending on how they upload each season, it’ll be around 2028 before all 7 seasons are officially available to watch on-line. By then who knows, Sony could have their own + network. Or have re-re-re-released The Real Ghostbusters completely to a new format.

For any ghosthead who doesn’t have the original Time-Life set or incomplete volume DVD sets, I’m happy generations of ghostheads have the opportunity to enjoy The Real Ghostbusters every week.

As a ghosthead who began this site to be all about The Real Ghostbusters I’ve added a new page to share Sony’s official uploads (currently early in Season 1) of The Real Ghostbusters. I will organize it further as they add new episodes and my schedule allows.

Ghostbusters Cereal To Return

If you believe Walmart, (cereal listing) Ghostbusters cereal (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, October 8, 2014) is returning in time for GHOSTBUSTERS Afterlife. (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, January 2, 2020) Which this year, would have been at the earliest June 11, 2021.

Recently Sony Pictures pushed Ghostbusters Afterlife to November 11, 2021. While some related toys and collectibles have been released, I feel a cereal tie in will be on shelves about the time of the to be determined theatrical release.

Ghostbusters Afterlife cereal is to be made by General Mills. By the (probably not final artwork) I hope the “Kix” balls are stawberry flavor. Which is what Funko Stay-Puft cereal should have tasted like.

If I can find/buy a box at a grocery store I’ll most likely review it.

Ghostbusters Cereal Coupons

On December 14, 2020 Robert Maxwell Barbieri aka Bobby Eighties (Facebook) posted “vintage Ghostbusters scrapbook material.” Once I saw Bobby’s photos I had to ask about sharing his Ghostbusters Cereal (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, October 8, 2014) coupons. After taking close up photos, editing, a new month, year, and a few cosmetic changes (so far) to Ecto-Containment, I’m happy to co-present 37 year old Ghostbusters cereal coupons in color!

Earlier in the twenty teens I had only seen black and white versions. They originally came from newspapers during the 1980s. Most likely shared by Matthew Jordan of Ghostbusters Wiki. I’ve been wanting to see and share these coupons as I believe I remembered from childhood.

Bobby’s coupons go beyond cereal. Premiums, (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, October 20, 2014) Sweepstakes, (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, October 25, 2014) Stay-Puft apparel, and Toys ‘R Us.

Ads and coupons are mostly in chronological order from dates listed.

Early proof Kraft should have licensed the Stay-Puft brand.

Kenner The Real Ghostbusters 1988 Toy Fair Display

toyfair88pic6.jpg

Three weeks ago toy author and collector Matt George of Geeks Antiques (Instagram) posted photos of Kenner The Real Ghostbusters toys from Toy Fair in 1988. In a time before social media, not everybody could have been there or seen this kind of presentation.

While this sweet event was in in progress, I was probably 11. It would have been awesome to have seen these photos in real life. In my 4th decade of life, it’s still pretty great. The above photo is probably the entrance to a room with a treasure trove of The Real Ghostbusters toys. Kenner could have just put some type of movie version of Ghostbusters HQ up. No, they built part of an accurate The Real Ghostbusters Firehouse play set!

toyfair88pic4.jpg

Once inside the partial 1:1 scale (I’m guessing) Kenner Firehouse attendees would see photos like the one above. It’s an “overflowing” river of slime with the then unknown spoiler of the Statue Of Liberty from Ghostbusters II featuring then current and upcoming The Real Ghostbusters figures. That’s some display, a shame Kenner didn’t make a play set from that!

I won’t post the rest of Matt’s photos here. They can be seen at his Instagram account, Geeks Antiques.

Playmobil’s Recreation Of The Real Ghostbusters Opening

playmobilrgbsopeningcap.png

Maybe a coincidence. :p Reckless Abandonment Pictures produced and published their stop motion tribute (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, October 8, 2019) to The Real Ghostbusters. Ten days later in time for Halloween Playmobil has released their animation version (naturally in the Playmobil style/universe style) of the iconic The Real Ghostbusters opening.

Like with Playmobil’s Ghostbusters animation, (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, February 2, 2017) ghostheads wonder if Playmobil and Sony Pictures Animation will ever make a full length Ghostbusters/The Real Ghostbusters animated movie(s).

The Real Ghostbusters Stop Motion Tribute

stopmotionrgbstri.png

Kyle Roberts, from Reckless Abandonment Pictures sent over an electronic email to let me know about one of their stop motion videos. It isn’t any stop motion video, it’s a tribute to The Real Ghostbusters intro, “starring” Diamond Select Toys The Real Ghostbusters figures!

Press Release:

It’s that time for all things spooky, and we ain’t afraid of no ghosts! 💚👻💚Oklahoma City animation studio, Reckless Abandonment Pictures, got their start producing fan-made stop motion intro videos; notably X-Men and Ninja Turtles. Since then, DreamWorks, LEGO, Mattel and other major brands started reaching out to them for commercial work. As a labor of love the team is back at it again with a stop motion tribute to the nostalgic 1986 ‘The Real Ghostbusters’ cartoon introduction! With over two months of work and 2,500 individual pictures, Kyle Roberts and crew brought this fan made tribute to life. Artist Nathan Poppe crafted over 30 hand-drawn doodle images to establish a bright and vibrant backdrop to complement Roberts’ use of action figures. The team used a mixture of Ghostbusters toys over the years, from the 1980s nostalgic Kenner figures to the newly released Diamond Select line. They also fabricated their own clay puppet for the walking/dancing ghost! The original RGB theme song was covered by composer Nicholas Poss, vocals by Sean C. Johnson. The whole idea of this labor of love us to feel like all of this is kind of made by kids in their imagination! As kids of the 80s, now with kiddos of our own… it was only fitting that we recorded several of our own kiddos voices shouting “Ghostbusters” in our tribute!

Scared Diamond Select Toys Mr. Stay-Puft Coming To New York Comic Con

scaredstaypuft_dst

Diamond Select Toys has revealed their New York Comic Con “Scared” Mr. Stay-Puft exclusive. Ghostheads would immediately recognize that while this figure is being marketed under The Real Ghostbusters brand, the only time Mr. Stay-Puft was scared is right before the Ghostbusters ruin Gozer’s night.

Opinion: I don’t own the “regular” non exclusive version. I really like the idea behind this affordable toy and collectible. I’m not sure why (other then deceiving a fanbase) Diamond Select Toys couldn’t market this under the Ghostbusters brand.

I safely presume as an exclusive ghostheads who aren’t attending NYCC will have no chance of buying “limited to 500 pieces” Stay-Puft at $20 USD.

That’s toy collecting for you. =/

Spirit Halloween New Ghostbusters Costumes

Last year Spirit Halloween took their Ghostbusters license to the next level with new Ghostbusters costumes, prop replicas, and more. (GBI Blog Post, August 30, 2018)

Those items far as I know are still available to buy along with a storage facility full of new items.

Full disclosure I don’t own any of Spirit Halloween’s Ghostbusters items. As you may know I own a couple of Ghostbusters flight suits, (Ecto-Containment Blog Post, March 5, 2014) that don’t fit because I lost weight in the last 2 years.

When I’m able to I’ll put together a new for me Ghostbusters costume. This post is more of an overview and my opinion of what Spirit Halloween is offering this year than a review.
