chickens. A safe vaccine, the scientists say,

is incapable of spreading a disease, is free

of contaminating disease organisms, and
retains its ability to induce immunity af-

Georgia Farmers Earn

Conservation Practices

Georgia State Administrative Officer

Agricultural Stabilization and
Conservation Committee

It is plain that the Agricultural Con- -

servation job must be done for America
to meet its future needs. Conservation can
be done only by the people who control
the land, the American Farmers.

Agricultural resources are vitally im-

lars worth of raw materials used,70 cents
comes from cropland, grazing land and
forests. Conservation of cropland, graz-
ing land and forests is, therefore, of direct
concern to every citizen.

The national ACP appropriation for

1957 was 250 million dollars. Farmers in
Georgia earned gross cost-share payments _
of $7,580,170 by carrying out approved

conservation practices. This money was

earned by 37,298 farmers who established
conservation practices on 4,535,730 acres
of cropland.

While the basic policy of ACP, help--
ing farmers meet the cost of conservation
work needed on farms in the public in-

phasis on different programs has shifted
with the changing times.

Greater emphasis in the 1957
program was placed on carrying
out practices which assisted Geor-
gia farmers in their never ending
problem of adjusting their operations to
the changing agricultural economy. High-
er cost-share rates were established on
such practices as permanent cover, plant-
ing trees, livestock dams, and woodland
improvement. These practices were se-
lected by many farmers to shift their land
