David Blough off to hot start in first career game

Lions rookie QB David Blough connected with Kenny Golladay for an explosive play to open the game.

Well, that’s one way to debut! Detroit Lions quarterback David Blough replaced Jeff Driskel in the starting lineup for Thanksgiving and on his second pass attempt, he connected with Kenny Golladay on a 75-yard touchdown.

A drive later, Blough added second touchdown. On that drive, he was 3 of 4 for 56 yards including a touchdown pass to Marvin Jones.

Blough quieted down in the second quarter. Through his first half of NFL action, he is 7 of 15 for 179 yards and two touchdowns. The Lions lead 17-10 as he has outplayed Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky.

The Lions were underdogs coming into this game, and the line moved out to near a touchdown by kickoff. Blough signed with the Lions as an undrafted free agent after a solid if quiet career at Purdue. In his final season, Blough completed 66 percent of his passes for 3,705 yards with 25 touchdowns and one interception.

Despite the impressive start, Blough wasn’t able to complete the win, losing to the Bears 24-20. Blough finished with 280 yards and two TDs, plus a late-drive INT to seal the victory for Chicago. Blough finished with 18.3 fantasy points, which wasn’t bad considering his price was down at $4,200 on DraftKings for the three-game slate.
