Qantas Airways
The largest Australian airline, Qantas Airways, operates national and international services. The airline started in November 1920 as Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services Limited and is the third oldest airline globally. The Qantas name comes from an acronym of its original name. In 1934, Qantas and Britain’s Imperial Airways established Qantas Empire Airways Limited (QEA). In 1967 the name changed to Qantas Airways Limited. Subsidiary airlines are Jetstar, QantasLink and Qantas Freight.
Airbus A380
The Airbus A380, the world’s largest passenger airliner, is a multi-national four-engine, wide-body monoplane airliner. The maiden flight occurred on April 27, 2005, and entered service on October 25, 2007, with Singapore Airlines. However, with lower-than-expected sales making the type commercially unviable, Airbus announced production would end by 2021.
The flight crew comprises two pilots, and the passenger cabin typically seats 525 in two classes, a maximum of 853. Th A380 uses four Engine Alliance GP7200 or Rolls-Royce Trent 900 high bypass axial flow turbofans engines; pylon mounted, two under each wing. Only the inboard engines have thrust reversers.
