Sapulpa, Oklahoma, United States--A 66-foot tall gas pump (or 74 feet including the circular sign on top) can be found in front of the Heart of Route 66 Auto Museum in Sapulpa, Oklahoma; the museum commissioned the big piece to draw visitor’s off the road and into their space; it is shaped like a vintage gas pump that would have been found at service stations across Route 66 in its heyday and sets the world record for being the World’s Tallest Gas Pump, according to the WORLD RECORD ACADEMY.

"This 66-foot tall gas pump can be found in front of the Heart of Route 66 Auto Museum in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. The museum commissioned the big piece to draw visitor’s off the road and into their space. The roadside attraction is shaped like a vintage gas pump that would have been found at service stations across Route 66 in its heyday. At the top is an illuminated 14-foot globe that advertises the museum.

"Originally the giant gas pump was meant to have an inner spiral staircase and observation deck inside but, due to safety codes and complications, that part of the project was scrapped. It was completed in May 2018 and was awarded the Best New Attraction in Oklahoma award for that year."

"The Heart of Route 66 Auto Museum has been open for a year now, and they hope their strange road sign idea will bring in visitors," the KTUL says.

"I want them to say, 'Oh wow, there's the world's tallest gas pump' and, 'what's in that building,'" said Lina Holmes, the museum's executive director. "We're hoping they'll come in the doors after they see the pump."

"Inside the re-purposed armory, a normal-sized version of the gas pump is standing, giving us a sneak peek of what's ahead as the sign is finished. Getting the 14-foot globe to the top of the sign was a project, and one that the museum has been looking forward to for months."

"Three huge garage doors make it easy for antique cars to enter and exit the museum. With 10,000 square feet of space, the building now shows off beautiful and rare cars on the former drill room floor.

"At the other end of the building an area highlights how the old armory was used for the 45th Army Reserve in conjunction with Route 66, along with a space dedicated to honoring the Mother Road."
