Easy to use and the sonar recording is cool

I bought the Elite-5-HDI the week of a major Kayak tournament in Pensacola Fl. It Helped me win 1st place Red Snapper with a 16lb 2oz fish. I had never fished Pensacola before an I would have not been able to win it without the Lowrance - Elite -5 HDI. I would recommended to anyone.

Great Product

Bought this unit for my kayak and I am more than impressed. It's the perfect screen size for a small craft. I would even use it on my boat. Wouldn't add a thing. Maybe touch screen. That would be it.

Perfect for kayaks!

Compact: fits perfectly in my center console. Reliable, quickly accesses GPS signal..Screen colors vivid with excellent resolution. Great value for the price. Intuitive operation.

Great instrument

I've had this unit for 3 years. Overall it's not bad, but the user info is terrible. I've had issues with surface clutter along with transducer issues i.e. losing bottom reading and can't rectify no matter how hard I try.

Poor User Info

I bought this product 3 months ago for ocean fishing. Amazing clarity. Would have rated as a excellent put lose depths at any speed above trolling.

Great divice for going directly to my crab pots, unlike before hunting for them a wasting gas.
A great help in locating fish, getting the right trolling speed, all on one screen.

Great small fish finder for my boat

I am relatively happy with my unit except the instructions are a bit lacking. It seems to have trouble with clutter, a friend had to tell me how to adjust it ,them when the unit was turned off and then turned on again the clutter was back.not everyone is a electronics geek.

Room for improvement.

the chart plotter overall is a good backup navigation system, but it has its drawbacks as with any product.
Positives:
1)The chartplotter doesn't have a touch screen this is beneficial for when operating in heavy weather as water drops don't interfere with the user-product interface.
2)The plotter has built in tides -good for longer trips and unknown approaches.
3)The system is very intuitive to learn and is adjustable to you preferences.
Drawbacks:
1)As 50% of my navigation is at night I need my electronics to have a red-out mode to preserve my night vision and improve my situational awareness. Red light doesn't affect the rod cells of the eye and is only viewed by the cones therefore protecting your night vision. This chartplotter doesn't have a redout night mode.
2)The charts that come with it are also significantly off in some regions. I personally have witnessed errors of upwards of 1/2 mile of error between plotted and actual locations of fixed ATONs. My suggestion is to not utilize this product in regions where you don't have extensive local knowledge.
3)The chart ploter has also exhibited a tendency to eject the sd card in heavy weather(seas greater than 8-12ft) , particularly in developing a seastate. This will eliminate the maps on the display.

adequate backup navigation system

I have used my elite-5hdi a total of seven times and it worked great. Last night went out on the lake and the unit did not work. It froze on the first screen. Tried several times to restart it and it would never get by the first screen.
