Every year, on the last weekend of September, the Château de Tiffauges offers you a life-size immersion in the heart of the Middle Ages.

In 2023, the Tiffauges Medieval come back for a 6th edition, on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 September.

1372, Tiffauges – The call to arms

In this year 1372, in the midst of the Hundred Years War, daily life is not easy!

The constable of France Bertrand du Guesclin invests the fortress of Tiffauges and raises an army to reconquer the Kingdom of France from the English. Alongside his knights, gunners, archers and craftsmen, he invites you to answer his call to arms !

Enough to attend the preparation of a medieval army thanks to reconstructions historic sites as unique as they are spectacular, but also to take part in them through numerous activities: introduction to archery, demonstration of the medieval crane, shooting...

A life-size immersion

A weekend of festive entertainment

The animations and reconstructions will extend over more than 3 hectares. They will allow you to stroll among all the re-enactors present as far as the outside meadows of the castle, on the outskirts of the Sèvre and Crème.

The medieval market

Come stroll between the stalls of the medieval market, in the scents of honey, pastries, vanilla and spices. The senses will be awakened by the sounds of craftsmen, traders who harangue the crowd, the smells of straw, leather and wood, medieval cuisine.

Musical instruments will resonate over the weekend with tunes and songs from a repertoire ranging from Brittany to the Orient.

A restoration is proposed within the walls of the castle in order to take the time to prolong this medieval immersion.

The village of craftsmen

The sound of craftsmen's activity will take you back in time. Come and walk through a medieval market and discover the many craftsmen present to pass on their know-how: apothecary, cabinetmaker, blacksmith, weaver, gunsmith, calligrapher, basket maker, potter, woodworker, leather craftsman and craftsman, etc. .

Musicians, dancers, and entertainers will also be present to take you on a journey into the past. On site, go to the medieval farm to cuddle sheep, goats, donkeys, etc.

Historical reconstructions

Nearly 500 extras from all over Europe will make you experience two exceptional days of immersion. Of the reconstructions realistic combat and knight maneuvers will be offered, as well as demonstrations of archery, crossbow and artillery.

Personalized tournaments will be organized in the afternoon where the nobles will challenge each other on one side, and the soldiers on the other. A great battle Sunday at the end of the day will close the weekend.

It is also an opportunity to discover the life that is organized in each of the camps: courtesy garden, supply of the cellar, guard patrol, field hospital, tavern, command areas.

An exceptional heritage

The Conservatory of War Machines

Le Tiffauges castle has around fifteen pieces in its conservatory of war machines tested during performances: catapult, belfry, ram, breastwork, lifting crane, trebuchet, etc. The castle has live fire demonstrations, approached in a playful and educational way, but also scientifically thanks to the thematic visits.
