Rupert Friend's hairy transition to 'Hitman'

Rupert Friend wasn't always the butt-kicking dude we see onscreen in TV's "Homeland" and "Hitman: Agent 47." Friend first broke into the scene in 2005's "Pride & Prejudice" as sly Mr. Wickham.
"It might look like some incredibly complicated map to get from English period films to American action anti-heroes, but it really is just about not having a plan. That's the honest answer," says Friend.

As Prince Albert (next to Blunt's Queen Victoria), Friend admits the hair and the mustache were all his. But the sideburns? "The mutton chops were not real. I hate to break your heart. I had a beard wig."

Rupert Friend turned one scene as CIA black ops Peter Quinn into one of the show's most compelling characters going into season 5. Each episode reveals a little more on Quinn. "No one is who they seem. We all far more going on. We're all just getting to know this guy. It's being able to see behind the curtain," says Friend.

Besides the intense physical training for the part of Agent 47, Friend also gave himself a clean cut every morning: "Buzzing your head takes a minute. It's very functional. And there's no vanity to it. It's a very practical way to go. For me it was about what's the realistic version of this character."

Rupert Friend says he used to put his bar code on before work each day on "Agent 47." It's smaller than the video game version. "There it's the size of a post card on his head. But it's quite hard to be inconspicuous with that thing going around. We wanted something subtler, something more grounded in the real world."
