Max Payne remake for next-gen console and PC gamers announced
Remedy Entertainment, the creators of Max Payne, have announced that they will remake the iconic Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne video games in a new development agreement with Rockstar Games.
Rockstar Games was the publishers for the OG Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne games. “We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games “We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years, and we can’t wait to play these new versions.”
The games will be developed by Remedy as a single title for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series XS using its proprietary Northlight game engine. Rockstar Games will finance the project, and the budget will match those of typical AAA games produced by Remedy. As part of the agreement, Remedy will earn a royalty after Rockstar Games recoups its development, marketing, and other costs associated with publishing and distributing the game.
“Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same,” said Remedy CEO, Tero Virtala. “We’re hugely excited to be working with our partners at Rockstar Games once again for the chance to bring the story, action and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games back to players in new ways.”
Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne is a third-person shooter video game developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Rockstar Games in October 2003. It is the sequel to Max Payne (2001) and the second game in the Max Payne series. Max Payne 2 continues the story of the titular character, a detective for the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and former vigilante, as he is reunited with contract killer Mona Sax and must work with her to resolve a conspiracy full of death and betrayal.
