There is little reason to leave this family favourite on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park that’s within an hour of Leeds — and that’s because of the people as much as the place.

“My husband, who is from Manchester, still can’t believe it when he walks into the pub and they pull a pint for him because they know what he drinks. It really is that friendly and welcoming,” says Ruth Eidsforth, 44. She grew up in the town and moved back in 2019 to open Discount Sports with her husband, Tony. “I was desperate to get back. Skipton people genuinely have a buzz about them. We’ve got lots of sports clubs, lots of independent gyms, people into their fitness, people who
