The dynasty that dominates the French far-right faces new strife after Jean-Marie Le Pen, the patriarch, failed to invite relatives to his wedding.

Marine Le Pen, his daughter and successor as leader of the rebranded National Rally, learnt of the event in the press a day later.

Mr Le Pen, 92, exchanged vows before a traditionalist Catholic priest and a few guests at his home in the western Paris suburbs with Jany, 88, his partner since 1986. He did not invite Ms Le Pen, 52, or Marie-Caroline and Yann, his other two daughters by Pierrette Lalanne, his first wife.

He and Jany first married in a civil ceremony in 1991. “This was a romantic gesture full of spirituality,” a guest at the new ceremony said.
