SIR Tom Courtenay is an Academy Award-nominated English actor, who's best known for his work on the West End and on Broadway.

Tom Courtenay was born in Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, on 25 February 1937 - that makes him 81.
He shot to fame in the 1960s after starring in movies The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (1962), Billy Liar (1963), and Doctor Zhivago (1965).
In 1983, he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for the film adaptation of The Dresser. However, he lost out to Robert Duvall.
Courtenay was awarded the 1962 BAFTA Award for most promising newcomer and the 1963 BAFTA Award for best actor.
Tom received a knighthood in February 2001 for his service to cinema and theatre.

Who's Tom married to?
Tom married actress Cheryl Kennedy in 1973, but the couple divorced in 1982.
In 1988, he married his current wife, Isabel Crossley, a stage manager at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester. The couple have homes in Manchester and Putney in London.
Tom and Isabel have no children together, and the actor discussed the fact in a 2005 interview with The Telegraph.
When asked about not having had children, he said: "I haven't got over being a son yet!"
Asked if he ever wanted a child, he said: "We had bad luck, Isabel and I."
