Who is Sean Bean?

Sean Mark Bean, 60, is a British actor from Handsworth, Yorkshire.

He has a younger sister called Lorraine and is the son of a stud mill labourer and a secretary.

In 1983 he graduated from the London acting school RADA after winning a scholarship to study there.

In 2013 he won an Emmy award for his role as Simon in the BBC drama Accused.

What TV series and films has Sean Bean starred in?

Sean Bean has had a long, established career in film and TV and been behind some of cinema's most iconic characters.

In the Lord of The Rings Trilogy he played Boromir, a wise and valiant warrior - his line "One doesn't simply..." was picked up online, and became a popular meme.

Between 1994 and 1997 he starred in eight TV movies as the British Soldier Richard Sharpe - he reprised the role in 2006 and 2008 for two one-off specials.

In 2011 he joined Game Of Thrones as Ned Stark but was killed off in the ninth episode in season one and in 2017 he played Father Michael Kerrigan in Broken.

Notable films he's starred in include The Martian, Black Beauty and the 1995 James Bond classic GoldenEye.

In 2018 he leads the cast of ITV drama The Frankenstein Chronicles, reprising his role as Inspector John Marlott for the third series.

On September 29, World On Fire will commence with its first series on BBC Once - a new drama starring Sean Bean who plays Douglas Bennett.

Is Sean Bean married? Who are his ex-wives?

Sean Bean married his fifth wife Ashley Moore, 33, at a ceremony in Dorset in June 2017.

The actor's first wife was Debra James who he met while at secondary school - they were married from 19981-1988.

Then in 1990 he married Melanie Hill, an actress and fellow RADA student - but they divorced in 1997.

Sean has two daughters with Melanie - Molly, 26, and Lorna, 30.

In 1997 he married actress Abigail Cruttenden who he met while filming Sharpe - their daughter Evie Natasha was born in 1998 and they divorced in 2000.

From 2008 to 2010 Sean was married to actress Georgina Sutcliffe.
