A HIGH street has reopened after a large chunk of a hotel roof fell into the road.

High Street in Lewes has been made safe after the piece of masonry from the White Hart Hotel collapsed at about 11.30am on Wednesday morning.

The Argus:

Fire crews closed the road and warned residents and visitors to avoid the area as they worked with building control to deal with the incident.

Some Brighton and Hove Bus services had to be diverted because of the road closure.

The road remained closed for more than 30 hours.

The Argus:

But it was opened again shortly after 8.30pm yesterday.

A Brighton and Hove Buses spokesman said: “Lewes High Street has now reopened.

“Our 28 and 29 have returned to their normal route within this area.”
