Monte Vista Elementary Welcomes New Principal

Monte Vista Elementary School in South Whittier welcomes their new principal, Carmen Durand.

Carmen Durand began her professional career as a Speech-Language Pathologist, or SLP, in New York City, which is her native home town. There, she worked as a bilingual, Spanish, SLP for the NYC Board of Education, as well as in private practice. She also worked as an SLP at the New York School for the Deaf, in White Plains, NY.  Carmen is multilingual as she is fluent in English, Spanish, and American Sign Language.

After her first daughter was born, Carmen moved to Las Vegas, NV, where she held a variety of positions in her 18-year career with the Clark County School District. Nearly seven years ago, Carmen moved to Los Angeles, CA where she worked at Marlton, a school for the Deaf in Los Angeles, prior to accepting her new position, as Principal at Monte Vista Elementary School.

Carmen is a wife and the incredibly proud mother of two daughters.

Welcome Carmen! South Whittier School District is excited to see your positive impact on this school and community.
