Zidane set for small role with Real Madrid

MADRID, Spain — Zinedine Zidane has a role in Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid staff but it will not be a prominent coaching one.

Madrid director general Jorge Valdano says Zidane will help Mourinho "not with the technical work but by collaborating in a way that his experience is available to the coach and the team."

Valdano says Zidane will be involved with Madrid’s Champions League games and "some" Spanish league matches. The 38-year-old will not be sitting on the sidelines during matches.

Mourinho previously worked with former Madrid player Luis Figo at Inter Milan.

World Cup winner Zidane has been working as adviser to Florentino Perez, who returned to the Madrid presidency last year.
