SF6 Circuit Breaker

GL 107
SF6 Circuit Breaker GL 107 - The Compact Design

SF6 circuit breakers have proven

their reliability in high-voltage
and extra-high-voltage systems
over the past few decades. SF6 Circuit breaker
GL 107
The well-known puffer principle is
the basis for ALSTOM’s Type
GL 107 SF6 circuit breakers.

The GL 107 interrupter technology

is also a reliable basis for breakers
in medium-voltage systems.
Many years of experience with more
than 20,000 breakers guarantee
customers a high level of dependa-
bility and safety of operation.
The GL 107 has been developed as
a compact versatile circuit breaker
for use in the medium-voltage to
high-voltage range of from 12 to
40.5 kV.

Spring Mechanism FK3-1

SF6 circuit breakers place special

demands on the required
operating mechanisms.
The newly developed series of
Type FK3-x spring mechanisms
will form the basis for all future Spring mechanism
ALSTOM circuit breakers. FK3-1

The compact design of the GL 107

breaker requires a space-saving
operating mechanism. The newly
developed FK3-1 mechanism was
used for the first time in this outdoor
breaker because it meets that
requirement. This mechanism is the
result of experience accumulated
with more than 20,000 ALSTOM
spring mechanisms – combined with
advanced materials, functional
design, and maximum reliability.

Arcing Chamber Principle of Operation

Every problem needs its own

solution. This thought is the
basis for selecting the quenching
principle for the GL 107 SF6 circuit
breaker.

The GL 107’s interrupter chamber

works according to the single-
pressure principle. The quenching
pressure required to extinguish the

systems are electrically isolated from
one another. The opening spring in Piston
the mechanism has been discharged,
and the closing spring has been
charged by the charging motor. For
operation, the spring energy stored in
the mechanism is transmitted by
linkage and cranks to the insulating
drive rods inside the pole columns.

During the closing operation the

opening spring in the mechanism is
charged. The lower contact system
