I've been meaning to play these, 1 and 2, I almost did. I got caught up with some things and new releases.

Are you playing the 3rd game OP? I'm curious about your impression. I haven't played it and I heard conflicting opinions about it. Some people really liked it but others think it is the weakest of the franchise.

Edit: just realized you played it
I did. I liked the spooky atmosphere, also that you had a run button. It had some backtracking too. If you liked the first and the second game, I can recommend to play it. The only part I really disliked were when you were on the lunar surface. The running speed was really slow and you had a little bit of plaform jumping in there, so it had some frustrating passages there.

The first game had also a similar dark atmosphere. So I can imagine why you thought it had some Eternal Darkness vibes.

I think the reason for that is, because they tend to be vague what to do next. Even if you talk to NPCs most stuff is pretty cryptic. They still have that in the Souls games. Without a guide I wouldn't have know that the casino is even mandatory lol.

I agree. I was suprised when I saw Demon's Souls in store here. It only released as a special edition with a guide included. Haha, oh yeah I've noticed that Famitsu has a weird scoring system. Curious as well, what next game From is doing and if it will be a collaboration with Sony again.

Oh yeah, I've seen that, that you can get Left Alive for a bargain price. Such a shame it bombed so hard. I've seen that, maybe worth a look, but I've already read here that it has some issues or bugs, hopefully these are patched. Gun Hazard also had pretty nice music, made by Uematsu and Hamauzu.

I only stumbled by chance over these games. I didn't even know at that time these were made by FromSoftware and that they had their special games. But their choice for releasing their games was interesting all right.

That's really great to hear that 2 isn't so bad and quite the shortest of the bunch. And the story is at least worth a look, thanks for that.

Regarding Xenoblade, I would recommend don't doing to much sidequests in Xenoblade 1, there are tons of them.
This mostly applies to the two other games as well. I liked the story of the 3rd the most, because it was the most mature, afterwards the 1st and then the 2nd. The 3rd game had the most likeable cast in my opinion. I also liked Reyn and Shulk from the 1st game.
If you go for the sidequests you can accumulate a ton of play time.
If you only want to see the story, I would try to mostly ignore those if possible, because there are tons of side activities in them.
If you want to experience the Xenoblade in full I would recommend doing all sidequests as well :)

Sorry for the late reply friend! You're right, the game can be very cryptic! It's the main reason I was unable to finish it all those years ago. By the way, how wonderful was the setting of the ship at night back in the day? Lovely.

It's amazing to see the change in status from Demon's Souls back then to the souls series today. I just realized we don't know what the next From Software game is even though their last game has been out for almost a year.

For Left Alive, if you have a subscription to PS+ Premium, you can play it for free. It wasn't horrible but it was so painfully average. I actually listened to the Gun Hazard soundtrack when I was going through some soundtracks I missed from the 90s.

I also stumbled by chance onto Echo Night. I was intrigued by the cover back then, I was only 13 or 14! The back of the cover looked interesting:

Glad to have shared the info on Xenosaga, if you have any questions let me know.

Interesting about your advice on Xenoblade as my friend said the exact same thing - that there are too many sidequests and it's best not to go through all of them. I hope you have been enjoying 🤩

For some reason the first game reminds me of Eternal Darkness.

Can't believe it's been 20 years with no sequel released or at least a very similar third person game...

No worries, thanks for your reply :)
Back when the internet was in its infancy, these games were hard to complete without guides and such. Without a guide I would have been stuck pretty early in the game as well. The whole thing on the ship was pretty cool and also very different from the stuff game developers used back in the day. I liked the vistas in the game.
So I know what you mean.

Indeed. I am curious as well what From Software will tackle next. After each game they are going often radio silent until they can announce something new and show some footage.

Thanks for the tip.
I will keep an eye out, if not, there is always the chance to use YouTube for that.
I should also listen to the Gun Hazard soundtrack again. Been a while I've heard the soundtrack.

The back cover of Echo Night looks certainly interesting. If I had seen this back cover in a retail store I would bought it just because the screenshots look interesting. Looks haunting even in screens.

I certainly will thanks for the offer :)

The sidequest count in the Xenoblade games are brutal lol. So if you want to progress story your friend gave the right advice. You can spend days only doing sidequests without progressing in the story.

Thanks, I am so far. Made good progress in Star Ocean 6. Raymond is a nice protag. I like his carefree style. Midas is also not bad. Been in the middle of chapter 3 already. The sidequests are mostly fetch quests. But nothing on the hard side. Welch was a little bit annoying but I got all options for crafting now. Clocked 16 hours already.

You are very welcome 😁! Indeed the vistas were nice and different! We were among the gamers who didn't have the tech to access guides unless we bought the physical guides (and they were expensive! They cost as much as a game almost).

This is the first time in a while I feel that From Software did not announce their new game for this long. However there are rumours that they'll have an update at the Game Awards this Friday 😁👍.

The nice thing about listening to old soundtracks of games you played is that it'll take you back down memory lane. And yes, thank God for having YouTube the way it is today.

Exactly! From Software really used good screenshots from the game.

Thanks again for reaffirming my friend's advice on Xenoblade side quests! Will definitely keep that in mind 👍!

Oh wow, 16 hours! How does it compare to other Star Ocean games? Honestly from the demo I tried it's the best feeling I've had for a Star Ocean game.

I now remember the high quality guides by Piggyback, those were the times, or BradyGames.
Now you'll find everything on GameFAQs or on the Internet when you just google for the game.
I had guides for Final Fantasy 8 and Final Fantasy X by them, great times.

I've read the same, lets hope they have something great to announce :D

I agree, I still have the OSTs from Suikoden 1, 2, Tales of Destiny Remake, Final Fantasy 7 and Parasite Eve 1.
Still listening to them time to time. I really should replay Parasite Eve 1 by the by lol.

You're welcome, if you need any assistance or help with Xenoblade 1-3 just ask away :)

I really like the tools you have there in the game. You could compare it to Star Ocean 2 or Star Ocean 3. So it is one of the better Star Ocean games. As of now, all of the characters are pretty likelable. Nina is a little bit on the annoying side, but Star Ocean had worse lol.
The fighting is fun as well. Tomorrow tri-ace also releases an patch to optimize some stuff. If you liked the Star Ocean games, I can really recommend it. The sidequests are more on the fetch quest side, but that's OK to me. I am hooked by this game, and this has been a while a game done that, so Star Ocean 6 is doing something right here. It has its flaws but nothing which dampens the fun in general.
I am playing it on PC, so I am looking forward to the patch here.

Oh yes, Brady Games made such wonderful guides. Remember prima games? Some guides had such great detail.

How hilarious is it that indeed they announced their new game earlier today? Armoured Core 6! Looks too good. From the director of Sekiro too I think! Also, on the topic of From Software, congrats to them on their Game of the Year award!

Reading your OST list, how awesome is it that we're getting a Suikoden 1+2 remaster?
Parasite Eve 1 was great. I sometimes hope Square Enix would give it the modern updated port like they have been for other games, but I think they may have a trademark issue?

Thanks for your support on Xenoblade! Will do.

Yes it does look like Tri Ace out some good effort into this one..glad to see you're enjoying it! It apparently is around 40-50 hours long, so you've got much to enjoy 😁😁

Oh yeah I had the Half Life 2 Special Edition. It had a mini guide included made by Brady Games. They were pretty cool. I miss high quality guide books.

I've seen the trailer for the new Armored Core. Looking really good. And very happy for From that they got their Game of the Year award for Elden Ring.

I am very happy we get a remaster for Suikoden 1 and 2. Hopefully they improve the UI. Looks a little bit bland. But what they've shown via trailers looked amazing. Will be the perfect Steam Deck game.

I think so yeah, I think they were slme issues with the trademark or copyright. I wonder if we will see a real 3rd game in the future or this will be forever a pipe dream.

You're welcome, glad to be of help :)

That's true. Star Ocean 6 is again one of the better Tri Ace games. And I am pretty happy how it turned out. I still have some stuff ahead of me that's for sure :D and thanks. Looking forward what awaits next in Star Ocean.

The high quality guide books were wonderful, some had fun extras too, felt like a collector's item back then!

Yes, what an incredible era for From Software. 13 years in a row they have been producing one hit after another, with their expertise now it would be absolutely incredible to see them try out something like Echo Night in this day and age. Armored Core looks ridiculous - such great graphics!

There does not seem to be a great deal of effort put into the Suikoden 1 + 2 remaster given that the originals came out over 25 years ago, but the small touches look nice and like you said - would be lovely to play portably on Steam Deck!

For Parasite Eve - there is always a chance these days, because nowadays, especially since the boom of digital stores on all fronts we've been getting so many unexpected remakes / remasters / sequels: just this year alone, we got a port of a 25 year old Blade Runner game, the first non-remake Monkey Island game since 2009, the first brand new Gungrave game since 2004, a remake of the first House of the Dead from 1996, the first new Valkyrie Profile game since 2006...it's been a crazy time....

Enjoy the rest of Star Ocean 6! I'm very much enjoying a game called A Plague Tale: Requiem.

OK, I just finished it right now.

Nice plot twist, at the end of the game. The game was pretty cool.
Problems with the flashlight battery wasn't a non issue if you knew how to conserve everything the best way possible.
Plenty of batteries around.

Without a guide you don't know for sure which items belong to which ghost, you only get that information if you talk to them a lot.
There is also sometimes guesswork involved.

The least favorite part of the game was the lunar parts.
Movement was really slow and the mine part where you to do some timed jumping were a little bit frustrating, but nothing major.

I got Ending 4, so give the letter to someone in the end and refuse the offer.
The ending though is bittersweet.
The item which was responsible for this was the item from Echo Night 1 & 2 just in a different kind of form.

As of always the game had a really melancholic feel as of all FromSoftware games, but I think that makes these games by them pretty unique. I am sad that after the 3rd game, we probably won't see any sequels anymore, because as I've read here the developer isn't with FromSoftware anymore. And left the game business all around. I am glad that I played those games, great experiences.
Thanks for sharing! I own the game after buying it at random and messed around with it quite a bit, but always found it a bit too slow and cryptic so I lost interest... and if I'm honest I probably will never finish it myself.

I was and still am very impressed with the audio visual presentation. Your clanking boots and heavy breath, the in-visor UI, the flashlight and shadows cast. It's impressive stuff for the PS2 and overall I am happy to have discovered and played it myself.

I agree, very high quality and valuable.

Indeed, I hope after From returns to Armored Core, maybe they will retry with the Echo Night franchise. FromSoftware has come along way after Miyazaki joined the company, I am pretty optimistic, that they will try other things after they have now more support in general and are more known for their games than 15 or 20 years ago.

Sadly yes, Konami isn't really interested in taking care of their IPs which made them famous. Pretty wild that they know making money with everything but not really video games anymore. I hope they will improve the frame rate of the world map, looked rough in the trailers. But there is still time, they haven't announced any release date yet. I hope it will be Steam Deck verified when it will be released.

I've noticed that trend as well, that a lot of old games got revived or got a sequel. Maybe Square-Enix will retry sooner of later with Parasite Eve. Was pretty amazed to see a sequel to Gungrave, the least franchise I would've thought they would release a sequel to.
The problem I see with the Square-Enix franchises, these are really hit and miss. Valkyrie Profile Elysium, Star Ocean 6 even Diofield Chronicles or Harvestella weren't really well received by the press. Also read that Star Ocean 6 and VP: Elysium bombed in Japan.
The budget was really tight for most of these games and unfortunately it is pretty visible. I hope that Square Enix will still push those franchises nonetheless.

Thank you, I am pretty far in, game counter says 31 hours already, soon reaching the end though :)
I still enjoy the game, and I am glad tri-ace got the chance again to make a Star Ocean game.

I've heard about A Plaque Tale, I also wanted to try it sooner or later. I hope you enjoy the game, how far are you in ? :)

I had the same impression, hence I've played all three games with the help of a walkthrough, or small help of YouTube videos.
I'm glad I finally played all of the three games, after I've played all of them I am still planning to jump into the other franchises From made.

For that time and on the PlayStation 2 I agree, I am pretty sure From was on a pretty limited budget for the third game, still amazed what kind of effects they used to create the feel of loneliness and this depressing feeling all alone on a space station.

My friend - happy new year and sorry for missing this reply for some time! Yes I too feel optimistic about From Software now that they are finding much more success that they can hopefully put out a small title on the side that is different to their core projects every year or two!

The good news with regards to Konami is that as of 2022 in particular they seem to be getting involved a lot more with their franchises through licensing them out to other developers rather than letting them remain on hibernation.

As for Square Enix, it is truly unfortunate that many of their recent titles did not light up the charts - I really wanted to see better from Valkyrie Elysium especially as that is a franchise that looks wonderful and worth saving. Diofield as well seems to not have sold enough to have threads created about any milestones. But I hope they keep at it. One of their better made games from reception - Triangle Strategy on the PC and Switch - sold really well despite being a new IP on a limited number of platforms.

I hope you enjoyed/are still enjoying Star Ocean 6! I beat a Plague Tale Requiem and it absolutely broke my heart because of how depressing it was.

By the way, I hope to play Echo Night 2 in the coming month or two!

No worries. The end of last year was pretty crazy so I don't mind at all :)

I'm also curious what From Software will show this year. Maybe we will get a suprise one or two this year. I am also rather optimistic now that they have made their standpoint and are now very much and better known than several years ago.

I've also seen the same that Konami is giving out licensing to other studios now. Recently seen with Silent Hill 2 Remake. I am curoous how this will olay out this year. We got some intereting time ahead of us.

I agree. I am sad that Valkyrie Elysium flopped so hard, same with Diofield Chronicles. I am playing Elysium at the moment. While on the real budget side it is still fun for the fighting mechanics alone. I am at chapter 6 now. So I am almost done with it too. There are 9 chapters in total. The PC port works good enough.
I am also hopeful that Square Enix is still going to try. I am looking forward to Octopath Traveler 2. I very much enjoyed the first game. The 2nd game looks awesome as well. Loving the 2D-HD look.

Read the same. Triangle Strategy was pretty a suprise release and did rather well. I am hopeful this will get a sequel and Square Enix was rather satisfied with the sales.

Thank you :)
I've completed it last year. Was really fun. The last dungeon was disappointing though. Lot of recycling of Boss fights and the design wasn't really much to talk about. Raymond was a cool protagonist though. Enjoyed the fighting system in it. I don't regret playing it. The characters were nuce as well. I hope tri-ace gets another chance to make a Star Ocean 7.
Same with Valkyrie Elysium at the moment.

That is really nice to hear that you enjoyed A Plaque Tale Requiem.
What have you enjoyed most of the game ?
Also read on here that the ending was rather not on the happy side.

Sounds really neat :)
If you do I would like to hear your impressions on it. Keep me updated regarding your Echo Night 2 playthrough.

Happy new year! Indeed, From Software have massively grown, and despite their success with the Souls series, I feel it is specifically Elden Ring that really brought them the most fame possible.

Indeed, some great times ahead for gamers! What are you most excited for this year? I am actually glad to hear your positive impressions about Valkyrie Elysium as I actually liked the demo! Glad you're enjoying it. The 2D-HD games look amazing! I want to play Octopath Traveller as well - too many games, so little time :'D. You may enjoy Triangle Strategy, looks amazing.

The issue with the Star Ocean games is that due to the limited budget it shows by the end of the game, lots of recycled content. Glad you enjoyed it though!

Yes - a Plague Tale Requiem was phenomenal! Lengthy, full of many highs, with a very cool and powerful story and gameplay. I loved the main character the most - I felt so much pain for her throughout the entire journey. Her pain felt real and her acting was incredible. Highly recommended, but yeah - the ending wrecked me honestly.

I'd love to share my thoughts on Echo Night 2 once I start! I hope you enjoy all of Valkyrie Elysium!

So anyone here extremely late to the party with Echo Night?

Besides me, I hope other people try Echo Night as well :)

Thanks, happy new year to you too. I certainly agree, and the year is still fresh haha.

I am looking forward to the Dead Space remake, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Suikoden 1+2 Remaster, Octopath Traveller II, and the new Yakuza games releasing this year, and probably to the new Zelda. The new Fire Emblem also releases this month, I will wait for reviews though.
Diablo 4 looks interesting as well. This year is looking good for games it seems.
Valkyrie Elysium was kinda nice, the budget was also tight here, lots of recycling of side mission levels.
I completed it recently. I quite enjoyed it, I can recommend it, the story was nothing measure but serviceable at least.

Haha I agree, I cleaned some stuff off my backlog, completed the both Sam & Max games on Steam Deck.
Started Metro 2033 Redux recently, and bought Shadow Men Remastered for the Deck, so I have still some stuff to do.
Oh yeah I also finished Syberia: The world before, was very enjoyable as well.
I will certainly look into Triangle Strategy, seems to be a perfect fit for the Steam Deck :)

I agree, seems that started with the 3D entries of Star Ocean, I remember that the 2.5 D games like Star Ocean 1 and 2, didn't have that issue. I hope S-E will grant more budget if we ever see Star Ocean 7.

I certainly look into both Plague Tales games, sounds mighty interesting, I am happy that you enjoyed it so much :)
Thanks, looking forward to your journey into Echo Night 2 and reading your impressions.

Amen to that, friend!

Indeed what a lovely year we have on our hands! After beating a Plague Tale Requiem I went for this sci-fi adventure called Observer - very interesting, and now I'm continuing my run of Sonic games I didn't beat - the next one is regarded as one of the worst haha, Sonic 2006! For this month I'm super excited for the Dead Space remake - it's been 10 years since the last game!!!

I may go for Valkyrie sometime - thanks for the impression! Oh wow you beat the Same and Max games? Sam and Max is one of my favourite series by far, so happy they are remaking another season! I tried the demo of Syberia the World Before yesterday and I was impressed by the town! I want to try the Steam Deck someday. Strategy games (and Adventure games!) sound great on the go.

If SO6 ends up doing well I imagine the budget will increase. Thanks for sharing all your thoughts again, hope you get to enjoy the Plague Tale games someday 😁😁😁

Haha, seems we're on the same page here :)

I've read about Observer here on Era, wasn't that from the same studio which made The Medium?
I think it's Bloober Team right? They're also doing the Silent Hill 2 Remake afaik.
Have you completed it? What did you like about it?
Oh yeah heard a lot of terrible things about Sonic 2006, hopefully you don't need to rage quit :P
Which Sonic games you've already beaten? I've never touched the newer Sonic games, I think the last game was Sonic Generations?

I'm as well, been a long ass time I've played it, so I am looking forward to the Remake, also how it runs on the Steam Deck.

You're welcome, if you need some help or advice just leave me a message :)
Sam & Max is pretty crazy, when I started it I thought it was nothing really serious, but the later chapters were something else lol.
I am looking forward to the third game this year. Have you read the comics by any chance?

I liked Syberia: The World before, I pretty much jumped in blind without playing any demo, didn't regret it. Glad you liked it, I can really recommend it.
Some puzzles are really some headscratchers haha. Indeed, emulation is also pretty awesome on the Deck.
Point and Click are really great to play as on the Deck, also have to play the last three Broken Sword games, enjoyed both of them on the Deck too.
At the moment I am playing Ridge Racer 2, the PSP version, feels like on a real PSP haha. I recently started Metro 2033 Redux as well.
Got the whole trilogy when it was on sale, so looking forward to playing them.
Played some F-Zero GX on Dolphin emulator too yesterday, this game was always hard as nails lol.

I will hope so, would be pretty sad, if Star Ocean 6 would be the last game of the series, especially this time, they made great improvements :D
Thanks, and you're welcome, also thank you for your impressions regarding your games journey :)
I will keep an lookout if there will be any discounts for those two Plague Tale games, there will be in the Spring sale I'm pretty sure.

You're right - Observer is from Bloober, makers of the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake. Playing through some of their games and they seem to be a wonderful studio honestly. Observer was dark, depressing and felt original.

So far Sonic 2006 has SO many issues, I can't believe how buggy it is! But there's some fun to be had for big Sonic fans like me. It's just crazy that older 3D Sonic games feel less rushed. Since a few years ago I decided to play every Sonic game (except for the party or sports titles), so imagine I've played through each and everyone from 1991 (playing in order of release) and so far I reached 2006, where I've got Sonic Rivals and Sonic 2006. The one you beat last, Generations - I beat that years ago and it is still my favourite Sonic game by far.

The SH2 remake is one of my most anticipated titles, I pray it is great.

Thanks for your kindness! Yes, Sam and Max is just wonderful and I'm so glad the franchise is getting love again after a 10+ year absence! I didn't play the remakes yet, I'm definitely planning to! Which comic are you referring to? I have one at home that I didn't open yet called Sam and Max Surfing the Highway I think!

Glad you're enjoying Syberia, it looks so different that it transports you to another world entirely. It's sad that the creator of the franchise passed away not too long ago. Broken Sword! Good stuff - the first two are wonderful, even the last one, part 5, is very good! Enjoy the beautiful vistas and scenery in that game.

I tried Ridge Racer 2 recently as well, was reminded how incredible it look and felt on the PSP years ago. The Metro series looks good! F-Zero GX is the only F-Zero I played - but my goodness you're right, it's way too hard. I could never progress far!

It's my pleasure! Hopefully more Star Ocean games and more original stuff from Square Enix (let's see how Forspoken does in a few days), and yes, hope you get to enjoy the Plague Tale games. They tend to go on sale often 🙏🙏🙏

Heard also good things about Observer here on Era. I will certainly put that on my backlog list. Thanks for the recommendation :)

I think that has somethibg to do how Sonic Team is organized. As far as I know the Team mostly gets formed anew because the people which are hired there don't have fixed contracts. I think I've read it here on Era. But the 3D Sonic games were always worse than their 2D counterparts that's true indeed. I wonder how this passed quality management :P

That's really cool that you go from the beginning to the newest Sonic games. Even if they are some bad ones like Sonic 2006. Sonic Generations was really the last game I've enjoyed. Hope you are succesful in your road to play and complete all of the Sonic games besides the Sport ones and party ones :)

I do too. At least some of the older Team Silent staff is involved with the Remake. Let's see how it turn out.

I was just asking in general. I've never read a Sam & Max comic. :)
But now I know why people like them because of the real obscure and funny stuff.

That's really a long time. But neat that they still haven't forgotten about this franchise at all. Hope you enjoy the comic when you read it. The remake ones play very decently. In one episode even the old voice actor of Dhalia Gilespy was in it. Immediately recognised her voice. I think it was the episode with the Moai statues. :)
The remade environment and the character models look great as well. Looking forward to the next episode.

I think the Syberia World is mixed with Steampunk it's also very unique. I was also sad when I've read that Benoît Sokal died and this was his last game :(
I hope they will continue the franchise though. Kate Walker is a cool protagonist.
Thanks I will. Need to get a copy of the third game for PlayStation 2 probably AMD the other two on PC. Inlike the Humor in those games as well haha :)

I agree. Playing it on PPSSPP at the moment. Looks very good. Very sad this was the last real Ridge Racer. Afterwards they went open world and the game flopped.
Afterwards Ridge Racer was buried for good sadly :(
I hope someday NamcoBandai will revive the franchise.

Indeed. Looking forward how the story goes in Metro 2033.

Haha I know what do you mean. F Zero GX really wants you to master the controls and the tracks of the game. The story mode on Hard and Very Hard is tough as nails. Normal mode isn't easy either. I can recommend the original F Zero on SNES, F Zero Maximum Velocity amd F Zero GP Legend. If you want to try different F Zero games :) They are on the easier side than GX.

Also very curioud how the press will receive Forspoken. The demo wasn't so well received. But lets see. Release is already next Tuesday. And Dead Space is soon too.
Fire Emblem Engage is due for Friday as well. Good start into the year lol.

I will keep an eye out for sales. But I've noticed that they go on sale often so this shouldn't be an issue. :)

Thanks for the great conversation. I really enjoy it :)

My pleasure! Hope you enjoy Observer - it's purely an adventure game with only 5% of it being hide and seek gameplay.

From what I read about Sonic 06, it was being developed at the time when Yuki Naka, one of the key creators, left the company and some key staff left I think - and SEGA pushed to have it out by the holiday period, and it released - and remained - in a messy state I believe. I am playing the PS3 version and it's riddled with bugs, glitches and slowdowns. But I'm almost at the end haha!

Thanks for the kind words! It's been fun jumping from one sonic game to another and seeing the improvements (or the opposite at times). Any series you want to play through most entries for the first time?

Yes Sam and Max is odd and hilarious. The voice acting really helps deliver the comedy!

Oh wow, amazing that you recognized Dahlie Gillespie's voice actress! I'll be paying attention to those heads when I play it 🙏.

Ah so you are playing some Syberia games for the first time? I think the series may continue as it has it's audience for sure. May he rest in peace...

Oh yeah, it's been so long since we last had a proper Ridge Racer game!

Yes my F-Zero GX experience was hard as nails like you described. My favourite racing series is actually a futuristic one - Wipeout!

Good start to the year indeed! Forspoken is very polarising with its reviews so I'm curious. I'm praying Dead Space remake does well because I'm a huge fan. You're most welcome by the way, it's been a good convo! And every time this thread pops up I hope people hear about Echo Night more haha!

That sounds pretty good. I always enjoy some good adventure games. With a little bit stealth mixed in. :)

That makes sense that Sonic 06 was such a rough ride when it released. Especially with tight release schedules this was pretty much a given that it would be riddled with bugs and glitches unfortunately. Heard Sonic Frontiers remedied the 3D Sonic curse a little though. Glad you're almost done though. Haha I can imagine that you almost feel relived when you done.

You're welcome and I can imagine that it must be interesting to see the improvements or when something gets worse in a Sonic game. :P

I think that is the Metro series at the moment. I al middle of Metro Exodus. This game is very fun. 4A Games is a very talended studio. At the moment I don't have a special franchise on my list. I like to try different genres and play more what I feel like.

I certainly agree. The voice actors for Sam and Max doing a really good job with delivering the lines :)

Haha, thanks :) I've obly noticed because how she delivers the spoken lines. She has an interesting way to narrate her lines. Never thought she still is doing voice acting. Thought Silent Hill 1 was just an exception.

I've started with Syberia From the anew World. I've never played the franchise before. Read good things about it tthough. And indeed, this game has a nice fan community.
Looking forward to New stories with Kate Walker.

Really cool. Wipeout and F-Zero are my favorite racing franchises. It really sucks both are on indefinite hiatus :/
I hope Nintendo and Sony will release new games sooner or later. Still annoying that F Zero GX was the last released and that studio Liverpool was disbanded.

Oh yeah I've seen the reviews and topics here on Era. Very polarising indeed. At least there is now a demo on PC to try it out.
I hope so too. But I am pretty positive this remake of Dead Space will succeed. Only two days to go. Reviews are also tomorrow. Hopefully the PC port is good.

Thanks a lot :), that's true. Maybe someone else want to try Echo Night who knows.

Hey bud hope you're good! Adventure games are wonderful and sometimes just so stress relieving!

Sonic 06 definitely had issues, it was good to finally finish it and put it down. Too many bugs. Sonic Frontiers apparently is some of the best Sonic has ever been in 3D!

It's a great idea what you're doing - to play what you're in the mood for, so you'll enjoy more. The Metro games look really good..metro Exodus has story DLC for you to enjoy as well I believe. Enjoy it and Syberia! I started a horror game called Layers of Fear 2 - like Echo Night - it takes place on a cruise ship!

Yes, the Sam and Max cast are so funny and great 🙏🤣.

It's amazing when you hear about voice actors from very old games still acting!

Yes it sucks that F-Zero has been dormant since 20 years!!!!!! Wipeout had the lovely PS4 collection - I still play it! Looks so good!

Dead Space reviews are incredible 🙏🙏🙏.

On the topic of Echo Night, it's insane to see how low some of the reviews were despite it being a game like no other back then. I feel it gained a cult following after.

Oh yeah that's true, I am experiencing this at the moment with Shadow Men Remastered.
I always wanted to start it, and after I some playtime I was really hooked, the Remaser by Nightdive is really excellent, also that they added stuff which was cut from the initial release because of time constraints back in the day. It really sucks that Acclaim will never do a third game of Shadow Men.

At least now you can say you even completed the worst Sonic game ever, and have never to look back haha.
I've read about this, at least they did better this time with a Sonic 3D game.

Yeah, I think this is the best way, if you have to force you self to complete something, you can totally destroy your mood and don't enjoy the game at all. In the last weeks I really had a great oppertunity to complete my backlog. Oh yea you're right there are the Two Colonels and Sam's Story. Thanks a lot :)

Seems you're on the Bloobers Team run :)
But the trailers on Steam look interesting, also in first person, and as you wrote looks a little bit like Echo Night 1.
I hope you enjoy it, glad to read your impressions on it.

I certainly agree, haha :D

I was amazed too, especially this just being a coincidence, and I thought I was being crazy, afterwards I looked up the voice actors for the Sam and Max game and I was right, that was certainly something :P

Oh yeah it really sucks what is doing with the franchise, it is really odd to always hear, yeah if we have new ideas for an F-Zero, we will certainly make one, yet you see still new Mario games, which don't really make the formular all that new, the same with the Metroid Prime franchise, the 4th game seems to be still in limbo. How Nintendo treads their IPs is sometimes head scratching. But maybe this year, is the year for at least Metroid Prime 4 who knows. the WipEout Omega Collection for PS4 was a really cool idea, hopefully Sony will do something with this franchise if at all. But for now PS5 to PS4 compatibility must do it seems.

I am really happy that the Dead Space 1 Remake was so well received, I just watched the Easy Allies review and they were very satisfied with it too, gave it a 9.0 score. I got it last Friday for PC and completed it at the weekend. I think they released a patch yesterday, I will certainly retry new game plus for it. Funny thing is, even the original game was some time, I remembered most of the stuff, didn't regret the € 40.

Oh you're playing Shadow Man Remastered? Enjoy! I love how we now have so many classic games being ported over and updated! With Nightdive in particular, I am excited about System Shock's remake because I never got to play it back then!

Yes haha, you're right, it feels good to not have to worry about going through Sonic 06 again! I finished the DLC for Resident Evil Village (lovely!) and now I'm playing the Blair Witch game in VR - also from Bloober!

True - when going through the backlog there will be moments where we end up not enjoying a title and it's best to not keep going as there are so many other games to play! Glad I could point you to some Metro Exodus DLCs!

You are right by the way - on a Bloober games run! When I heard they were remaking Silent Hill 2 I figured I'll go for their older titles as I enjoy horror games. Layers of Fear 2 was pretty good! The story is a little loose and hard to follow but it is a pretty artistic game set in a cruiseship and makes me want a modern day Echo Night even more!

So cool how you got it right with the Sam & Max actors haha!

Yes - it would be nice if Nintendo revisits more of their older franchises! Metroid Prime 4 was announced almost SIX YEARS AGO :0!!!!! At least they remembered the franchise recently with the Prime remake! Would love a new WipEout as well!

Good news for the Dead Space remake is that it seems to have sold well too! Wow - you completed Dead Space already? That's amazing! How was it for you?

By the way, on the topic of Echo Night again, I love the main menu here at 2:32 - it seems haunting from the very start.

I recently completed it, was a lot of fun.
I agree, awesome that we have a studio like Night Dive. They did a great job in Remastering Shadow Man. Also that they added stuff which was cut initially. I also played the new System Shock Remake demo, was pretty awesome to play. I was pretty hooked haha. Never played the original release either, so looking forward to the release.

I can really imagine not going back to a bad game is a good thing. A VR horror game sounds pretty interesting.
You're on a Blobber roll haha.

That's true. Backlog shouldn't be something bad. As far as you have to play games and enjoy them all is well. The Metro Exodus DLC was very enjoyable, thanks again for the recommendation :)

That's a good preparation for the Silent Hill 2 remake. I should look into some of the Blobber games as well. Glad you've enjoyed Layers of Fear 2 :)

Haha, thanks. :P

That would certainly be appreciated. I finished the Metroid Prime 1 Remaster yesterday, and game is still great to play. The graphical overhaul looked great too. I should replay Metroid Prime 2 Echoes. Been ages I've played it. 6 years already, damn time flies :o

I hope Sony will really reconsider sooner or later. A PC port of the Omega Collection would be cool as well. Oh well a man can dream lol.

I've read the same. EA Motive did a great job with the remake. I enjoyed it. Been ages I did play Dead Space 1, but I remembered most of the enviroments in the remake. The additions from the second and third game made it more intuitive. Game couldn't Shock me, but it was a joy nonetheless. I am looking forward to what EA Motive will make in the future. A very talented studio. Heard their doing a Iron Man game. Curious about that.

Oh yeah when I started the game I listened to the main menu for a while. Definitely sets the haunting mood for the game.

By the way, will you get Returnal on PC?

I liked it a lot when I played it on PlayStation 5.
Octopath Traveller 2 and Yakuza Ishin are the next games I will get. Looking forward to them. :)

Hello friend! Glad that you enjoyed Shadow Man remastered and the System Shock demo! A thought just came into my mind regarding Echo Night - with more and more PS1 games coming out on PS4/5 per month, it would be nice to have Echo Night again - with rewind features and trophies.

Yes haha indeed I am on a Bloober roll - finished the VR and normal versions of Blair Witch and soon I'll play their latest released title The Medium :D. Before that I'll go into my backlog and play an oldie that I always wanted to play - Deadly Premonition, on my PS3!

You are most welcome - glad that you enjoyed the DLC for Metro Exodus!

Remind me again did you play any of the Bloober games? They also have a "remake/reimagining" of Layers of Fear 1+2 simply called Layers of Fear coming out this June and it looks amazing!

Metroid Prime! How is the remaster by the way? It looked more like a remake! Metroid is actually my favourite Nintendo franchise by faaaaar (followed by the platforming Mario series!).

With Sony and PC games anything is possible nowadays.

Oh man, Dead Space as well....so much to play these days! Happy to hear how much you had fun with it and it'll be interesting to see their Iron Man game, they already do "iron suits" so perfectly haha.

I have Returnal on my PS5 and it's one of those games I reaaaaaally look forward to playing at some point, are you playing the PC version? Yessss - both Octopath Traveller 2 and Yakuza Ishin look GREAT - so many beautiful games, my goodness :D!!!

Hey there, thanks, both were pretty amazing :D.
I know what you mean, that would be pretty great, but I think Echo Night is to much of a niche game, that Sony would put real effort in this, I am suprised they even released Legend of Dragoon again, been ages I've seen that lol.

Not bad, you're certainly on a Blobber roll, but I am happy that you enjoy them so much.

Deadly Premonition I never could really get into, because techically it was pretty messy, but the game is pretty much liked because of the story.
But if you can stomach Sonic 06, this should be a cakewalk aha, looking forward to your impressions :)

Not yet, I will probably have an eye on the Layers of Fear remake, which will release in June, and will start from there.
I've seen some videos and screenshots, looks great indeed.

The remaster was pretty great, game was a huge nostalgia trip, I still remember how I've played the first time, when I got it for GameCube. The graphical enhancements were a nice suprise. RetroStudios is a very talented studio.
Mine as well, I really like the exploration and isolation aspect of these games, also the music and the atmosphere are great in general in the Metroid games. After I've completed Metroid Prime: Remastered, I started Metroid Prime 2 : Echoes on Dolphin and also completed it, had a great time with it as well. I will replay Metroid Prime 3: Corruption as well, I certainly hope we hear more of a new Metroid Prime this year.

Indeed, last example would be the release of Returnal on PC.

I am curious as well, hopefully we hear more about this, this year.
The beginning of this year is pretty much packed, and I like it :D
This week Yakuza : Ishin!, Octopath Traveller II, the Kirby remake, and in two weeks Wo Long.
And more to come.

I've played Returnal when it was released on PS5, and even got the platinum trophy for it, I wasn't even a fan of roguelikes to begin with but that changed afterwards lol. I highly enjoyed the game, even when it was frustrating in the beginning, the reward is much much higher though. The atmopshere and the music is awesome as well. You have to report how your journey with Returnal is, looking forward to your experiences with it, I had my huge fun with it :D

Hey pal, hope all is well! Yes, Echo Night is too niche but hopefully with more and more PS1 games coming out in recent months I hope it gets picked up!

Finished Blair Witch, was pretty good, all that remains from Bloober's released titles is The Medium for me.

Oh man you weren't kidding, Deadly Premonition is ROUGH haha! Very glitchy and messy haha. Funny enough I'm playing the director's cut on PS3 which is supposed to have FIXED so many issues 🤣. The game feels interesting but soooo "wooden".

Yes indeed, with the layer of fear remake I'd say you can easily skip both Layers of Fear 1 and 2 since this combines everything and adds even more.

Is there a difference enough in the graphics of Metroid Prime remastered for it to be worth replaying? I remember the first time I played Metroid Prime and I fell in love with the main menu music. Oh wow, enjoy all the MPs! I beat all the Metroid Prime games as well and hope 4 is not cancelled ☮️!

What a week for games recently! Octopath Traveller 2 had a BEAUTIFUL demo! Makes me want to play the first and second!

Oh wow you got the platinum for Returnal!!! Congrats! I'm not a rogue like fan but Returnal looks SO good that it's one of the games I still want to play regardless! Glad to hear it is rewarding! What's your PSN by the way I'll add you :D

Really enjoyed the first one. It's a really cool and, at times, creepy adventure game. It just sucks that the true ending is locked behind rng, which means you could spend hours trying to complete the specific task for the astral piece in the casino.
