This lavender to purple sponge with fine white lines forms its skeleton by strongly intertwined spongin.
Chalinula nematifera belongs to the invasive species, which spreads strongly adhering to ship hulls. It is found preferentially in coral reefs and on hard substrates.
It also overgrows living corals, causing them to die.
