A massive and beautiful Agave from the Mexican states of Guanajuato, Oaxaca and Puebla that forms a dense and very neat rosette of wide, dark green to gray green leaves. Mature plants can get to 3 m (10 ft.) tall. An outstanding and dramatic plant for the drier subtropics that will thrive on regular watering and fertilizing. It can take some drought and light freezes. In Mexico, it is the premier source for the production of Pulque and Mezcal and has recently received additional attention as a superior source of Agave nectar, a natural, low-glycemic sweetener.
