In the 1880s, the publication of the illustrated catalog of the SAF required artists to send a drawing of the painting they wanted to exhibit, so that an engraver could transfer this drawing to the catalog. The drawing presented is autograph executed by the painter from his painting. Layraud, born in the Drôme in 1834 and died in Valenciennes in 1912, pupil of H. Loubon, Léon Cogniet and Tony Robert-Flaury, Prix de Rome in 1863. Recognized as a portrait painter. His model, Prince Constantin Radziwill, 1850-1920 is a descendant of a family of European nobility, the Polish prince allied himself with the business bourgeoisie by marrying the daughter of François Blanc, founder of the Société des Bains which owns the Monte-Carlo casino, the principality's main resource.
