Spock is officially coming to Star Trek: Discovery

Mr. Spock is finally appearing in Star Trek: Discovery. Ethan Peck will be taking on the iconic role of the half-Vulcan, half-human science officer first portrayed by the late Leonard Nimoy and taken on by Zachary Quinto in the new movies.

Spock is the one of the crew members from the original series and has appeared in many other Star Trek titles. He’s one of the series’ most iconic and beloved characters.

“We searched for months for an actor who would, like them, bring his own interpretation to the role. An actor who would, like them, effortlessly embody Spock’s greatest qualities, beyond obvious logic: empathy, intuition, compassion, confusion and yearning,” said showrunner Alex Kurtzman to The Hollywood Reporter. “Ethan Peck walked into the room inhabiting all of these qualities, aware of his daunting responsibility to Leonard, Zack and the fans, and ready to confront the challenge in the service of protecting and expanding on Spock’s legacy. In that spirit, we’re thrilled to welcome him to the family.”

Ethan Peck is the grandson of Hollywood legend Gregory Peck. He has appeared as Patrick Verona in the 10 Things I Hate About You television series and in various fantasy and horror films.

Discovery takes place before the original series, so this version of Spock will be younger than his appearance on the USS Enterprise. He will be Chief Science Officer under Christopher Pike. His appearance was teased at the end of Season One, when the USS Discovery encountered the USS Enterprise.

Star Trek: Discovery is part of CBS All Access, CBS’ subscription streaming service. Praised by fans and critics for keeping in the original feel of the series, but bringing new elements to the Stark Trek universe, Discovery returns in 2019 for a second season.
