Shovel Knight: King of Cards, Treasure Trove collection delayed ‘several months’

Originally scheduled for April

The final Shovel Knight expansions won’t make their planned April release. Yacht Club Games announced that it has delayed the platformer Shovel Knight: King of Cards, multiplayer fighting game Shovel Knight Showdown, and the physical release of the Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove collection by “several months.”

“It remains our focus to bring these to the highest level of quality just as we have with previous Shovel Knight games,” the team wrote in a blog post. “It’s also our priority to have these games on the disc/card for the upcoming physical version. We need a little more time to make this happen, and so we are pushing the release back one last time.”

The remainder of the Shovel Knight saga initially was to launch on April 9; Yacht Club hasn’t announced a new date yet, and won’t “until we know one for sure, from all partners involved.”

A big part of the delay involves updating and testing every single Shovel Knight entry, not just the new ones, because of the Treasure Trove collection re-release. Shovel Knight is one of those games that’s out on nearly every single system, and Yacht Club Games is committed to ensuring that King of Cards — and all the other campaigns — is compatible with consoles as outdated as PlayStation 3 and Wii U. (Showdown won’t come to Nintendo 3DS or PlayStation Vita, however.)

Also delayed: the accompanying new amiibo. Announced in 2017, the three figures support King of Cards, which means Yacht Club won’t release them until that game is also ready.

This is the second delay of Shovel Knight: King of Cards. Yacht Club revealed the game in 2017 for a 2018 launch; the studio pushed that back last year to April 2019. But fans waiting to play the fourth full Shovel Knight campaign, which stars King Knight in a prequel to the entire story, are probably pretty patient.
