Original Nintendo Switch Console Hits Lowest Price Ever at $259

UPDATE: It looks like both Amazon and Walmart have sold out of the $259 Nintendo Switch.

If you still don’t own a Nintendo Switch, now’s a great time to buy one. 

On Wednesday, both Amazon and Walmart were discounting the original Switch console to $259, which is $40 off the usual price. 

The discount appears to be the lowest the Nintendo Switch has ever been priced in the US, according to Deku Deals, which tracks Switch prices. Interested customers can use the links below to access the sales: 

• Amazon: Nintendo Switch with Red and Blue Joy Cons at $259

• Walmart: Nintendo Switch with Red and Blue Joy Cons at $259 (Price seems to have reverted back to $299.)

The Switch first launched five years ago. But despite the passage of time, Nintendo has refrained from trimming the console’s original $299 price. 

Last September though, the video game maker began permanently lowering the cost for the base Switch console in Europe from £279.99/€329.99 down to £259.9/€299.99. So it’s possible the company could be introducing a lasting price cut in the US. But for now, the official Nintendo website for the Switch continues to list the product at $299.

To date, Nintendo has sold 107 million Switches across the globe, according to its latest earnings report. However, sales for the console only reached 23 million in the fiscal year ending March 2022, which is down from 28 million units from the year before. 

In addition, sales for the Original Switch and Switch Lite models were down year-over-year by over 30%. But the company did see 5.8 million sales of the OLED Nintendo Switch model, which launched last year for $349.
