He was then signed to Atlantic Records, releasing his first hit single "Outside Today" (2018) and his debut studio album Until Death Call My Name (2018).

His mixtape AI YoungBoy 2 (2019) debuted at number one of the Billboard 200, and his mixtape 38 Baby 2 (2020) also topped this chart as did his second studio album, Top (2020).

Notably, his third studio album Sincerely, Kentrell (2021) was released during a period of incarceration for a federal firearms charge. The success of this album made him the third artist, after 2Pac and Lil Wayne, to have a number one album released from prison.
