James Marsden: OSU Drop Out to Hollywood Star

James Marsden, best known for his role as Cyclops in the action movie, “X-Men (2000),” and its sequels was born in Stillwater on September 18, 1973. After graduating from Putman City North High School, which is located in Oklahoma City, in 1991, Marsden attended Oklahoma State University.

 During his time here, Marsden was a member of the Delta Chi chapter of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and appeared in the theater production of “By Bye Birdie. “ Marsden attended Oklahoma State University to study broadcast journalism, but left a year and a half into school to pursue acting.

 His stunning good looks landed him work as a Versace model. After moving to Los Angeles in the mid 1990s, Marsden made guest appearances on television series such as “The Nanny,” “Saved By the Bell” and “Blossom.” Marsden’s breakthrough role came when he played Cyclops in the movie, “X-Men.” Along with “X-Men,” Marsden has appeared in other well-known box office hits such as “The Notebook,” “Hairspray,” “Enchanted,” and “27 Dresses.” Marsden showed off his singing ability in “Hairspray” and “Enchanted.” For “Hairspray,” Marsden was nominated, along with his cast mates, for a 2008 Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. Marsden currently lives in Los Angeles with his three children.
