Sarah Paulson’s acting career is booming — but she was told that wouldn’t happen if she went public with her romance.

The “American Horror Story” actress opened up about her personal life with The Edit this week, revealing she was told dating 74-year-old Holland Taylor would “affect your career negatively.”

“Early on, when people found out I was with Holland, some said: ‘I think you have to be careful, I’m afraid it’s going to affect your career negatively,'” she told The Edit. “I was like what? It never occurred to me at all.”

The 42-year-old Emmy award-winning actress said she ignored the advice and mentioned Taylor during her Emmy speech for “American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson” and said “I love you” to her in front of her peers.

“I thought, why would I not? The fact that I’m having this thought is wrong,” she said. “I am the captain of my own ship, and I’ve never looked to anyone to validate that, or tell me it’s okay.”

Paulson shared with the mag that her relationship is the “least interesting thing” about herself, but for whatever reason, people find her dating Taylor to be “fascinating and odd.”

In March 2016, Paulson confirmed she had been dating Taylor for a little over a year and told the New York Times she was “absolutely” in love.

The actress is set to star as Tony Bradlee in the upcoming film “The Post” starring Meryl Street and Tom Hanks, which focuses on The Washington Post’s decision to publish the Pentagon Papers.

It is due out on Dec. 22.
