"She certainly is deserving of this type honor because she had a truly outstanding career both in high school and college." Several other high profile athletes to be honored this year include 1984 Olympic gymnast Bart Conner, former Indiana basketball sensa-tionm Rick Mount, Ohio State basketball star Jerry Lucas and one other female, Tennessee start Cindy Noble, also a member of the 1984 U.S.Olympic team. Gary Cook, director of the Hall of Fame, said, "These 1986 inductees exemplify the ultimtae in atheltic competition and high school sports are forever indebted to them for their contributions Final Four two other times. Mulkey was honored as the Naismith National "Small Player of the Year" as a senior and also chosen the Corbett Award Winner as Louisiana's Amateur Athlete of the Year for 1984. She capped her playing career with a spot on the gold-medal-winning U.S.

Women's Olympic basketball team in the summer of 1984. A very strong student Mulkey received an NCAA post-graduate scholarship award of $2,000 upon graduation from Tech and then a year later in 1985 was chosen to join the Lady Techsters coaching staff as an assistant coach and chief recruiter. "We are happy for Kim and it proves again that her career belongs By JONAS BREAUX Outdoor Editor The Acadiana Chapter of the Gulf Coast Conservation Association will hold its first Fund Raising Banquet, Tuesday, May 13, at the Lafayette Hilton. The consec-vation organization is dedicated to preserving the vast natural resources Louisiana's coastal marshes and hays have to offer the residents of the state. GCCA originated in Texas, where for years coastal sport fishermen watched catches of redfish and speckled trout dwen-dle to the point where an angler might fish all day and only return home with a hand full of fish.

A group of concerned Texas anglers formed the Gulf Coast Conservation Association in hopes of stemming the serious decline of redfish and speckled trout populations. Through legislative action, the Texas GCCA worked diligently to have these two species of fish removed from commerical and to sport-fish status. Not only did GCCA halt the decline of these two very popular species, the group also got business interests to support their efforts to restore the numbers of short. But, since the arrival of GCCA, we have had nothing put positive efforts made in maintaining and perserving our reds and specks. "We would like to invite everyone to attend our banquet and see what GCCA is all about.

This banquet is one of the main means for us to raise funds. And we hope fishermen, conservationists and the family will attend," Mouton said. One of the highlights of the banquet will be a raffle. Some of the items to be raffled will be a 3-day sailfish trip for three to West Palm Beach, Fla. The trip will include all air fare, lodging, food and three days of fishing on Captain Eddie Herbert's, Other raffle items will include assorted rods and reels, deck shoes, ice chests, gift certificates, fishing trips and hunting trips.

All proceeds from the banquet will go to GCCA. Banquet tickets are $50, which includes the $25 annual membership fee requiered to join GCCA and the banquet meal. All donations are tax deductible. Tickets are on sale at Bell's Sporting Goods, Steinbergs and Wayne's Marine. For more information you may contact Kenny Begnaud at 233-3663.

RUSTON Kim Mulkey, former Louisiana Tech All-American and currently a member of the Lady Techsters basketball coaching staff, has joined such athletes as Johnny Bench, Arnold Palmer and Alan Ameche for induction into the National High School Sports Hall of Fame. The 1986 class is the fourth group to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, which was conceived in 1982 and which is housed in the National Federation's headquarters in Kansas City, Mo. A total of 18 individuals will be inducted this summer, bringing the number to 60 Hall of Fame members. Another Louisianan to be inducted this year is former Woodlawn quarterback standout Joe Ferguson, currently a member of the Detroit Lions in the NFL. Mulkey became one of the nation's most highly decorated prep stars while at Hammond High School, becoming the first women's prep player to score over 4,000 points (againt 5-on-5 comnpetition) while making all-state four straight years and leading her team to fair state titles.

As a senior she was honored as the National High School Player of the Year and then chose to play her college basketball at Louisiana Techn The dynamo guard was equally effective at Tech, helping the Techsters to national championships in 1981 and 1982 and also into the Mooeoooeooooeoooooooocooooooooooooooce reds and specks which had been deplenished by commercial catches. Through proper management and with the aid of hatchery techniques, the fate of specks and reds in Texas has gone from one of near extinction to a marked increase in the number of fish taken in Lone Star State waters. However, for Texas to make the turn around it was necessary to stop the commercials from taking reds and specks in the state. Naturally, these fishermen did nothing more than head east for Louisiana waters. "We are facing potentially serious times in Louisiana, concerning the future of redfish and speckled trout populations in our state," noted Acadiana GCCA Chapter President Henry Mouton.
