Eaton Company in Winnipeg and later joined the Royal Canadian Navy achieving the rank of Lieutenant. Following the War he joined the Unemployment Insurance Commission in Winnipeg and was transferred to Ottawa in 1958 where he remained until retirement. Hulse, Playfair 233-1143 -014999 NEWBURY, Marilyn (nee Marchum) At the Renfrew Victoria Hospital, on July, 16, 2002, peacefully the age of 67. Beloved and dear wife of 46 years to Ronald Newbury. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Suzanne, Christopher, Michael, Mitchell, Meghan, Zachary and Jaz. Sadly missed by Veronica, JP, Marion, Adrienne and Jo Ann as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A retired teacher and principal she will be missed by students and peers. Special thanks to the caring team on the 2nd floor of the Renfrew Victoria Hospital; you blessed her passage with skill, dedication and love. In accordance with her wishes and in respect of her interest in education, Marilyn has entrusted her body to further medical research. There will be no visitation or funeral.

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland on November 10, 1920, passed away on July 14, 2002, surrounded by his loved ones. Educated in Edinburgh, Hamish enlisted in the army as a commissioned officer during World War Il at the age of 21, having obtained his first degree.

He worked in the early development of anti-aircraft radar, prior to joining an operational unit in Normandy. Later, he joined the Canadians in the liberation of Holland. Following the war, he completed his education at the University of Edinburgh commencing his illustrious career as Research Professor in Animal Science. Obtaining both Fulbright and Kellogg Fellowships as well as membership in the Royal Society of Edinburgh, his distinction led him to Ottawa in 1967, where he headed the Animal Research Institute of the Federal Government. A distinguished adjunct professor at seven major universities, Hamish published eleven books and some 160 papers and was Editor-in-Chief of the publication, Animal Reproduction Science.

His expertise was sought by the United Nations Atomic Energy Commission where he headed research projects in developing countries including 14 in Latin America. In 1983, he retired to Victoria succumbing to his life long interest in the "History of Botanical Introductions receiving many awards for his beautiful rhododendrons. A devoted community leader, Hamish was president of the Board of the Friends of the Royal British Columbia Museum for many years and the Canadian Association of Museums and Art Galleries. He was a long time member of the Victoria Rhododendron Society as well as the Rock and Alpine Club. Hamish became a licencee of the Victoria Real Estate Board in 1990, enjoying an eight year career as a realtor.

Hamish was predeceased by his first wife, Muriel (Hislop) Robertson in 1972 and leaves his loving children, Moira Sargent (Richard), Gordon Robertson (Kim); Michael, Andrew, Lauren and Rebecca, all of Ottawa. Also predeceased by his second wife Barbara (Tod), in 1983, of Ottawa, mother of Hamish Jr. He leaves to grieve, wife and friend Deborah; children, Hamish Vanessa, Elizabeth and Emily. His passion for life, dedication to excellence and generosity of spirit is a living legacy to us all. Truly a gentleman and a scholar.

A celebration of Hamish's life will be held at St. Stephen's Church, 7921 St. Stephen's Road, Saanichton, on Thursday, July 18, 2002 at 1 p.m. follow in the church cemetery with the Reverend Dr. Wayne Short officiating.

She also leaves behind many close friends. Anne was a gifted visual artist and educator, who loved life and was dedicated to living it to the fullest.
