Funeral notices The Associated Press ALBANY A killer who told police his victim "meant nothing to me" was sentenced to 23 years to life in prison for her rape and murder last year. In sentencing Stephen Francis Kuber III Wednesday, Albany, County Judge Joseph Harris refused to allow him to withdraw his guilty plea, told him his actions were amoral and animalistic, and said if the state allowed it, a death sentence!" Kuber, 20, was living in Guilderland, an Albany suburb, when he met Kimberly Jaye 30, while at a bar with some friends on July 8, 1990.

The group went to her home in Altamont, near Albany, for a-pool party, police said. Kuber left the party with the others, but then returned to Decker's home early the next morning, saying he had lost a diamond ring, police "said. Once inside, Kuber choked Decker, raped and then killed her, investigators said. Toward the close of his trial, Kuber claimed he should be allowed to withdraw his guilty plea to second-degree murder because he was drunk and high on drugs at the time of the killing. During the sentencing Wednesday, Harris chastised Kuber.

for more than an hour. The judge quoted Kuber's statement to police after the incident as evidence of his lack of remorse. When asked if he was sorry, "Kuber told State Police Investigator James Ilorton, "I'm not sorry. Don't put that down on the statement that I'm sorry. I didn't know her.

She meant nothing to me. I won't shed a tear over her. I went home and slept like a baby "This defendant obviously from the nature of this offense is one of the most amoral persons to ever come before this court and is unworthy of belief," Harris said. "The game is over," he told Kuber. Thomas Marcelle, Kuber's lawyer, said he would appeal Harris' ruling, Philip Paul Arseneault Ralph F.
