The old console Paper Mario games are some of my favorite RPGs ever. Sticker Star... isn't the same, but it's got its own thing going for it and that's alright.

I kinda hope for them to go back to the formula of the first and second, those are probably two of my favorite RPGs of all time.

I would have to agree. It just..worked. Why try to blend in all these strange mechanics when you have something that works? Of course, being "too similar" can occur in video games, but TTYD was released years ago. I don't think anyone would mind going back to that.

Somebody would. It's a catch 22. You can't please everyone with anything.

I think it's important to understand where a game is coming from, but every game deserves to be evaluated on its own. Paper Mario: Sticker Star's a decent game, Thousand Year door is outstanding, and each is good or bad for different reasons.

I don't think many would say there's much more Nintendo can do with the whole "sticker" thing, but I bet a whole lot of people would love to see more games similar to Thousand Year door. Nintendo surely doesn't have to listen to us, but it doesn't hurt to mention, right?

That excuse/cliche can only get you so far. Nintendo pretty much grounded their focus on this game with the sticker concept. It (the sticker mechanic) was a flop, as we've heard from multiple sources/public opinion. That being said, other aspects of the game make it still pretty good. The humor is still there, and the levels are good once you get passed that frustrating over-world. I'm a pretty big fan of Paper Mario, I want to say this game is great. But it clearly didn't meet even my slightest expectations.

Whether you compare it to the original, TTYD, or totally on its own, it's still a game with one major flaw. It doesn't really matter what frame one views it in, as that flaw obviously isn't going to go away.

I agree with you, just let me point out that I didn't intend for that to sound like an excuse, coming from the developer. They don't get to make excuses, in a perfect world. The whole you can't appeal to everyone thing is true, obvious, but true. It's the same with the notion of a 'perfect' consumer experience -- it's just not possible, and the people who expect it are generally the ones who are disappointed with the final product(s).

When it comes down to it, I don't know how anybody expected anything like TTYD out of this. It's not like Nintendo had been hiding bits and pieces of information from the press. From the initial announcement, the only thing about this game that resembled TTYD was the papery-art style. And the Italians.

We should at least be happy that they came out with a new Paper Mario game for us to enjoy. It may not be the same thing you're used to, but at least you don't have to play the same one over and over.

If it's TTYD or the N64 version, I would prefer to play them over and over than play this over and over. I had to push myself to finish certain areas of this game.
