Foster Hirsch on Otto Preminger
[Moving Image] In the biography Otto Preminger: The Man Who Would Be King author Foster Hirsch explores the life and work of the acclaimed Austro-Hungarian-born theatre and film director. Preminger first gained attention for film noir mysteries such as Laura (1944), and later directed high-profile adaptations of popular novels and stage works. Several of these later films pushed the boundaries of censorship by dealing with themes which were then taboo in Hollywood, including Anatomy of a Murder (1959) which dealt with the subject of rape. Foster Hirsch, is professor of film at Brooklyn College and author of sixteen books on film and theater, covering topics such as film noir, the Actors Studio, and Kurt Weill. Hirsch will be in conversation with NAC member Nina Urban.
