Description of Hell: A Cyberpunk Thriller

The first game from Take 2 is a fun cyberpunk-meets-Inferno romp with an interesting plot: in the future where Hell is proven to exist and demons have real jobs, you play a police couple Gideon and Rachel who inexplicably become wanted criminals overnight.

You must find out why you've been betrayed, and by whom. Dennis Hopper's voice is the only high-point of voice acting in this game, and most dialogues go on forever. Still, the game is recommended for some good (tough) puzzles and truly epic length, with multiple solutions and optional sub-plots.

Seeing all the frustrated comments about installing and running this game is, for me, half the nostalgia, lmao. This game never ran properly and i'm glad the new generation today is enjoying it in the same way, broken as intended.

I try many times.... Please video guide How run this game. Thank you very much.

There's a much simpler way to get the game playing. All you need is the "cd" folder from the zip file. Instead of doing all that drag and dropping you can just mount your c: drive as normal, then mount the cd folder as drive d: with the -t cdrom parameter and install the game. Any time you run the game, you need the cd folder mounted as drive d: because the game requires the cd, but other than that, it's straightforward. It's no more difficult than installing any dos game, really.

Disabling the shadows in game does improve the performance quite a bit, too so that was a good tip. Thanks for that.

Ok; finally found the correct way to run this game. In these simple steps.
1: unzip file, find a folder marked CD, open it select all, copy and paste the contents into the main directory. Drag the file with the full game into DOSbox to mount it to C:
2:mount the virtual cd drive. simply type
mount d C:\your file path as it shown. at the end put the/ -t cdrom command if done correctly it will say msxdx is mounted as cdrom.
3: type install. You can speed it up with alt+ f12 be patient and wait for it to install, follow menu, select your options and exit to C: (You should only have to do this once, as DOSbox will create a folder in your directory with your save games and the background texture files marked as TAKE 2 it creates a second folder that says HELL. Next time you want to run the game, all you have to do is drag this folder HELL from the Take 2 folder into DOSbox, mount the virtual cd drive with the -t cdrom command and then type HECK. No more waiting to have it reinstall. Also a word of advice, if you turn off the "shadow" feature in the game menu options it will speed up the game greatly, as this function serves no purpose and really doesn't look that great on modern PC's anyway as it slows the game down (thanks to a reviewer on youtube; and an other guy who helped develop the game.) The mystery is solved, enjoy. Thank you myabandonware for making it available for us. 5/5/2016

Finally got this game to run on Doxbox 7.4; granted with the title of the game it's definately HECK to get running. Ok easiest steps.
After you download the game and unzip the file, open the directory and look for a folder marked CD; this particular folder you will want to open ,copy, and paste it's contents into the main game directory. You can delete the folder after you've done so, so as long as you make sure it's added to the rest of the game files. Next step: You can drag your game file and have DOSbox open it to mount it and give you the file path also; You need to mount a virtual CD drive; first type the following-(you can look up how to mount a virtual cd drive.) the command is always -t cdrom )
ok, next step.
mount d c:\"whatever your file path is etc."\ -t cdrom
if done correctly it will tell you msxdx is mounted. Now comes the aggravating part. type INSTALL (what this does is take you into the menu that unpacks the rest of the game's textures on the backgrounds otherwise it won't show up when you launch the game; it's a pain in the butt and takes a few moments but you can speed up the process by hitting alt+f12 to bump Dosboxes processor up a bit; you'll know when it works because it may only take about 2 minutes be patient, and then have you select your options and exit the menu. back into C:
type Heck. If you did everything correctly you'll notice the backgrounds on the main menu are now visible. The biggest pain I can see is that you apparently have to pull up the INSTALL option in DOS; after mounting the virtual CD drive every time you want to play HELL. I don't know if there is a way out of this, so if you plan on playing the game, make a day of it; So far the game looks and plays great, a little slow for an early 90's title but I'm ecstatic I got it to work. Oh and Stephanie Seymour from the Guns n roses November rain vid plays a human hologram; get ya a walkthrough and enjoy. If anyone figures a work-around the install step to make the backgrounds load right, let me know. I tried copying the folder after the game made a Take2 directory in my main folder, but it still doesn't load without going through the install menu; and if you load it without, you get sound and video and characters, but no backgrounds... hope this helps.

Disregard my last comment. Run install from CD directory. Speed up cycles using ALT-12 and wait.

TO RUN THIS GAME:

You will find a folder named "CD". Copy contents of folder into previous folder, "HELL".
Run dosbox
mount C
open folder HELL
run "heck".

Should be good to go.
