Former actress Kim Basinger looked unrecognisable as she made a rare public appearance running errands in Hollywood this week.

The actress who was once centre of the spotlight in Hollywood quit fame to live a relatively reclusive life in the past few years. The 69-year-old retired actress now lives a quiet life after her years of stardom performing in a number of 80s hit movies including the James Bond movie Never Say Never Again, erotic drama 9½ Weeks, 8 Mile, among many others.

Kim was also famously married to Beetlejuice star Alec Baldwin whom she shares her daughter 27-year-old daughter Ireland Baldwin with.

This week, the former L.A. Confidential star was spotted strolling down the street as she was out running errands in California. The mother of one was spotted makeup-free in a large straw wide brim hat as she stepped out weeks before making her big red carpet return at a glitzy LA event Last Chance For Animals on October 14.

The Oscar award-winning actress went for a low key look as she was seen wearing baggy grey sweatpants and a zipped-up black jacket for the daytime outing. Kim paired the casual outfit with black slip-on slides and large black shades as she carried a shopping bag down the street.

Kim's rare appearance comes as she previously shared in an interview last year that she struggled with agoraphobia that had stopped her leaving her house. The former Batman star spoke about her medical condition last year on the Red Table Talk alongside her daughter.

In a conversation with Jada Pinkett Smith, Kim described her experience with the anxiety condition as "like something just completely shuts down with you". She added that "everything used to make [her] nervous" adding that she couldn't go through tunnels in Malibu for years. She also shared that she needed to "relearn everything" revealing that she even had to learn how to drive again when she started leaving her home.

According to Cleveland Clinic, agoraphobia can be described as "a mental health condition that causes excessive fear of certain situations. Some people may even avoid leaving their home". This anxiety disorder can cause people to experience an intense fear of becoming overwhelmed or unable to seek help.

Since quitting Hollywood, Kim has become a passionate animal rights advocate. She has posed for anti-fur advertisements by PETA, filmed a PSA on downed farm animals for Farm Sanctuary, and was involved in the creation of a bill that protects diseased and crippled farm animals. In 2021, she was also the face of a documentary working to stop South Korea's "cruel dog meat industry" by LCA and the Animal Liberation Wave.
