Walkabout Mini Golf Quest 3 Update

Oh, how time flies! The Meta Quest 3 headset has been out since October and is loved by players all over the world.

Highlights:

  • We’re fully compatible with Quest 3, now with a visual upgrade (read below)!

  • Cloud Saves carry over to Quest 3 from other Quest headsets.

Looking Back to 2020

Since launching Walkabout Mini Golf as a solo project in September of 2020 just as Oculus Quest 2 launched, adding several platforms and nearly 23 courses, our most recent being Meow Wolf, our goal has been to make the game as fun and accessible for as many players as possible. That’s why we are delighted to announce that we are fully compatible with purchasing and playing on Meta Quest 3!

We Coconuts are mighty proud of all our mini golf title has accomplished, and are even prouder to welcome existing players upgrading to a Quest 3, and those new to both the headset and the game! If you need a course refresher or are unsure as to how to play, do join our fantastic communities listed below, where course-veteran moderators, players, and Coconuts will be happy to support you along your journey.

Has there been a Quest 3 upgrade?

As of December 7th, 2023, Walkabout Mini Golf players on Quest 3 have received a 13%+ resolution and performance update of 90 FPS (frames per second) up from 80 FPS on the Quest 2 — with Quest 3 now rendering at 1.5 vs Quest 2 at 1.33. All this means the Quest 3 is now at the same resolution scale as PCVR and PSVR2. We're also adding new Walkabout Grip-to-Putter settings for Quest 3.

How do I move Walkabout over and do my Cloud Saves carry over?

Ah, clouds *dreams of Quixote Valley.* Where were we? Ah, yes! You’ll be delighted to learn that as we use our own Cloud Save sync for Walkabout Mini Golf, your whole library, and game progress will carry over to the Meta Quest 3! Just make sure you are using the same account as your old Quest headset, and watch as the game smoothly glides back into your library like a flyover on one of our courses.

What other enhancements can I expect that might affect my Walkabout experience?

While everyone’s needs are a little different, every player has appreciated the increased visual fidelity, the broadened and sharpened field of vision for your peripheral vision lining up of putts, the more streamlined mass of the headset for less heads-down fatigue, the absence of a light ring on the controllers which allows for better control on two-handed grip, and the performance upgrades that make for fewer lags and quicker upgrades!
