Susan Boyle was one of the great success stories of British reality television, with her singing performances on Britain's Got Talent leading to a career which made her in excess of 35 million euros, yet just what has happened to the supremely talented Scot?

Having not sung professionally before, the then 47-year-old stunned judges and the public alike with her rendition of 'I dreamed a dream' from Les Miserables.

What followed was a whirlwind romance with fame and fortune, with the YouTube video of Boyle's debut performance on television reaching more than 100 million views within days of being posted online.

Bigger than Obama

Her first album sold over 10 million copies, and her video became more viewed online than the inauguration of President Barack Obama, according to a study done by The Sun.

The numbers backed up her popularity, with the inauguration of America's first black President only having 18.5 million hits on YouTube, with Boyle's performance generating five times that.

Susan Boyle - All that glitters is not gold

Britain's Got Talent didn't necessarily end perfectly for the singer, with Boyle finishing second in the competition after reaching the final, although it did kickstart her aforementioned career.

Unfortunately, as is the case with many overnight sensations, the pressure became too much for Boyle and very soon after her last live performance she was admitted to the Priory, a mental wellbeing clinic in the North of London.

According to The Sun, the singer had begun to show signs of strange behaviour and was transferred to the clinic by Ambulance, where she would spend the next few days.

She returned to the stage after her first admission to the Priory, which was voluntary, but has looked to keep out of the limelight ever since.

Sold over 20 million records

In the time since then Boyle has released eight further albums, with the last coming back in February of 2019, but her social media presence remains virtually non-existent.

The Scottish artist has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide and has been twice nominated for a Grammy Award.

In November 21 there was a brief period of social media activity as Boyle made a cameo in the BBC Scotland television show, River City. However, aside from brief appearances, there have been very few public engagements where Boyle has attended.
