Actor, ex-military man and karate champion. That's Carlos Ray Norris, better known by his stage name, Chuck Norris, which has brought him worldwide fame. Little else can be said about his acting, as Norris is considered one of the classics of action movies. What is less known is that the actor is an expert in martial arts, he was world champion in Karate Do in 1978.

Chuck Norris' relationship with martial arts began during his time in the US Army. He was stationed in South Korea in the 1960s, where he practised Tang Soo Do, taekwondo and some Hapkido. On his return to the United States he continued his martial arts training, combining it with boxing, karate, judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

This is what Chuck Norris' training was like

Chuck Norris went on to 'create' a new martial art, Chuck Kuk Do, based on Tang Soo Do and combining elements of all the martial arts he practised. This martial art is not only about taekwondo kicks and improving leg flexibility, the actor also created a code of honour in which he stressed that it was as important to develop as much as possible as a person as it was to be nice to others.

A video from 1984 has been uncovered showing a young Van Damme, 24, training with Norris, 44. In the video, Norris can be seen kicking the pad held by Van Damme with great force. Never before seen footage of the two action movie legends.
