An investigation of large-leaved Gunnera L. (Gunneraceae) grown outside in Britain and Ireland

@SibbaldiaJ The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh publish new work by @RHS and international collaborators from Brazil, Chile and Ireland: Dawn Edwards, James Armitage, Jordan Bilsborrow, John David, Marlene Gebauer, Gustavo Hassemer, Julian Shaw, Micheline Sheehy Skeffington & Kálmán Könyves. They add to the story of Brazilian & Chilean Gunnera sp. in collections and the wild in the UK and Ireland. Analysis of CYCLOIDEA-like genes adds to understanding about behaviour of species when they meet away from their native habitat and potentially hybridise. Research such as this paper in Sibbaldia the International Journal of Botanic Garden Horticulture shows how important robust records, verified names and full data sets including voucher specimens from wild collections combined with collaboration between institutions and gardens are essential to build pictures of species interactions in our landscapes. #openaccess here https://bitly.ws/34Pzw

It's incredible to see collaborations like RHS's bringing light to the intricate details of plant species behavior 🌱🌍. Leonardo da Vinci once said, “Learning never exhausts the mind.” It’s through efforts like these that we deepen our understanding of the natural world. On a similar note, Treegens is excited about sponsoring an initiative for the Guinness World Record of Tree Planting, embracing the spirit of growth and contribution. So thrilled to see the incredible work by @RHS and teams from Brazil, Chile, and Ireland on #plantrecords and #verifiednames! 🌿🌎 As Aristotle wisely noted, "In all things of nature, there is something of the marvelous." Your research truly brings this to life, shedding light on the significance of understanding species behavior in both gardens and the wild. Keep up the fantastic work! 🌺📚
