Partial decarbonization of black ammonia production for use as fertilizer - wonderful! But a 10 MW electrolyzer is the biggest green hydrogen project in Australia? All those others are just announcements, plans, MOUs or Twiggy Forrest fantasies, eh? Sounds about right! #hopium addiction is like the opposite of those mirrors on vehiclea- objects are actually much farther away than they appear...

First green hydrogen project in Australia to replace grey ammonia production in Western Australia gets AU$47.5 million federal funding to get started...
There are unfortunately some widespread systematic assessment errors in the hyped field of power to e-fuels and e-amonia. Decisions makers have developed an over-optimistic desireability and confirmation bias. Many of the critical factors and challenges, that should affect the assessments, are ignored. (Especially regarding scaling, state of the art and industrialisation of electrolysis). Lack of understanding the technology trade-offs, including non-appearance of understanding the state of the art, the critical challenges. the treads and the potential showstoppers, are leading to eroneous conclusions and decisions. Opportunism, over-optimism and assessment bias have made the strategies and the projects insensitive to the critical timescales, the critical challenges, the required activities (and knowledge) and the reality.
Ecology as a part of economy? Does nature and environment really care about virtual values like humans do? Can the enviroment be financed back to normal?:-) Let's experience reality soon... Keeping the same thinking and focus on economy and virtual values and teories, how can that "save" anything? Challenges ahead...
? Typo ? Not getting far on 10MW for anything….
FWIW (probably not much) I suggested we really need a 20MW demo plant and a few of the government suggested we where mad. So: 1. Good effort 2. RIght size 3. Sad it needs Fed funding but ...
What a useless waste of taxpayers' money. And also of valuable time. When will people return to using their common senses? Before it will finally be too late again, or after?
So you make a product of which 30%+ evaporates once it is applied to the field? Hmmm... https://extension.psu.edu/nitrogen-application-in-warm-dry-weather
I find quite virtuous the intend of decoupling food from fossil fuels, but firming hydrogen production with batteries???????????????
If the business case is so good - why do they need government money? Our hospitals need that money.
Why not concentrated solar? Heliogen.com
Paul Martin there are several other well-advanced green hydrogen projects in Western Australia, the wording in the article is that it's the largest "of its kind". A company called Infinite Green Energy have projects in Arrowsmith and Northam which are of a similar scale, but to supply hydrogen for transport, and I believe they'll go RFSU earlier than this one. I feel like I'm splitting hairs here though - I think it is still true that none of the proposed megaprojects on the mtpa+ scale have entered FEED. The Pilbara has absolutely enormous potential in green and blue ammonia export and green steel - there are some very high combined wind&solar capacity factors available, local to significant infrastructure.
