There are numerous reasons why learning a new language is beneficial. It allows you to communicate with new people and helps you see things from a different perspective. It also gives you a deeper understanding of another culture, making you a better listener. Hence, one of the things I most regret is not learning Tamil. I've seen what I've missed out on by not doing so. This media innovation may be the wake-up call I needed. This is my #SriLankanWish 🇱🇰 Project Partners: Isobar Sri Lanka x Imaginary Digital Solutions (Hamza Haniffa) x Wijeya Newspapers Ltd x Virakesari Media Innovation Overview: Our goal was to break down our country's long-standing linguistic barriers. We're using the power of language to make 2023 more meaningful. This year, let us send our loved ones greetings in their native language. As a result, a Sinhala newspaper will carry the Tamil new year's wish on its front page, while a Tamil newspaper will have the Sinhala new year's wish. And the messaging in the English-language papers will be in another language. Getting different media houses across platforms(Press/Digital/Radio/TV) to collaborate on the project was an achievement, especially on Jan 01st. And I was told this is a media innovation executed for the first time in Sri Lankan print media history. Special mention: Without Manushi Senanayake working her magic, none of this would be possible. 🫡

1ySuch a wonderful initiative and an important first step we need to take to build bridges among our people. Thank you to my team at Isobar and Dentsu Grant Media and to the Wijaya Newspaper Group and Express Newspapers for partnering us and all the other media for their support. By not speaking each other’s languages we are missing out so much.
