As #crops continue to come out of fields for #Harvest23, now is the time to replenish your #soil with a fall manure harvest for the upcoming year's crop. 🌱 Here's why: 🌽 Nutrient Enrichment - Fall manure applications help replenish the soil with #nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulfur, copper and zinc for the next year's crop. 🌎 Soil Health - Applying a #fall manure application builds soil biodiversity. Studies have shown that manure's micronutrients and organic #microbes restore soil health and rebalance the soil from commercial fertilizers. 🌱 Crop Performance - #Hog manure provides nutrients required by many crops to thrive. With a fall manure application, you may see up to 80% more crude #protein in next year's #forage yield. The benefits are endless. 👊 For more information on fall manure applications and services offered by PCM, please give us a call at (507) 238-4495. ✳️#Root and #shoot’s growth dependence on #soil #temperature. This image proves the point that having a more constant soil temperature in the late spring and autumn promotes root growth which will reflect in #yield. The root confort temp varies with species. But generally, the upper limit (~31C) is a lot less variable than the lower limits. Which tells that the soil temp is more important at the first stages of root growth in spring crops How to do that? #covercrop #biomass is your preferred tool. Weedy rice gets competitive boost from its wild neighbors Weedy rice, a persistent agricultural pest resembling cultivated rice, thrives by hybridizing with wild rice in Southeast Asia, giving it a competitive edge. Genetic studies reveal diverse pathways to adaptation, complicating efforts to manage this costly weed. Farmers employ various methods, yet weedy rice's adaptability poses ongoing challenges to rice cultivation. https://buff.ly/3UUTo9l via @washington-university-in-st-louis #Agriculture #PlantScience #PlantSci #Crops #Rice #Rice #Science Image: Weedy rice is an aggressive weed that outcompetes cultivated rice. 🌱 🎯 Happy #silage #harvest2024! I drove from SC to NY this week and looked first hand at some winter forages (cover crops). This #phenology map from the great, Theresa Crimmins and the USA National Phenology Network, does a excellent job at predicting triticale, wheat, and rye forage timing. I focus on the tan and brown sections of the map. This area signifies where my goals are for harvesting winter forage for lactating dairy quality feed. This map, coupled with splitting stems, and pre-harvest sampling, can help you lock in your harvest quality. By monitoring gdd's, and tracking pre-harvest samples, walking fields, splitting stems, and looking at weather forecast can make or break your winter forage quality. I focus on monitoring NDF and NDF digestibility fractions, to hit the 🎯 on forages. For these cool season grasses, planting date, nitrogen management, and harvest timing are the keys to success. Great discussion, and questions are always welcome. #foragefive, #qualityforage, #foragecoach Alltech, Alltech Crop Science, Alltech Mycotoxin Management
