"The Shadoks" was a very popular animated television series in the 70s created by French cartoonist Jacques Rouxel. "The Shadoks" is still a very sarcastic comparison with some companies's strategy and policies. One of My favourite quote is this one: "Better to pump even if nothing happens rather than to risk something worse happening by not pumping."
It seems to me that many of you assume 🤔 that #Battery Packs are reduced to flat-floor packaging or simple rectangular 📦 boxes…
So here are some more complex examples 🫶🏻 for you
In addition to the packaging challenge, these complex shapes add a lot of other problems 🧠. For example when talking about vibration test 🫨, it is not always possible to bolt the Pack on the standard fixation of the vibration table (see for example the Battery of the #Electric Moto 🏍️⚡️ of Ducati Motor Holding
As for passenger cars, I also put some examples in this video especially with the T- and H-shapes from the Maserati GT 🔱 and of course the Nevera from Rimac Automobili 🏁
Please note that none-square Packs do not necessarily use cylindrical cells 🪫 (even if there are maybe more common) and they also can use various Cooling strategies ❄️ (cooling plate, serpentine, immersion 💧, etc.)
Next chance to hear me presenting in this Wednesday in Stuttgart 🇩🇪 at the WeAutomotive Group conference on #Battery Innovation and Thermal Management 🌡️
I will talk about some unexpected consequences of Battery Cooling ❄️ on #EV Technologies ⚡️, Battery and Car Design 🚘, Manufacturing and more
If you are around Stuttgart this week, do not hesitate to message me

Today, i have hit 1000 consecutive days of learning Chinese 🇨🇳 on DuoLingo and here are my lessons so far:
I started Chinese with an objective to help me learning on #Battery 🔋 and #EV ⚡️ Automotive and it has been hugely useful for me! I am often on Chinese websites 💻 or videos and I find there a lot of useful information
I have set up a strict routine ⏱️ with between 5min and 20min of Chinese every single day including Xmas or if I am ill or tired
I find learning Chinese easiest than what I initially thought. It is really fun 😀 and the grammar is very intuitive. Reading is not so hard if you have a visual memory 👀 like me but pronunciation is a nightmare 😭
It is super interesting to learn a none-western language + it helps to understand culture differences 🧧, philosophy and mindset
I have still a very long road before I can fully talk and understand Chinese 💬 but I do not care…the journey of learning is more valuable than the final goal ☺️
Want a summary 🗒️ of the #AutomotivePhotonics organised by TRUMPF last week❓I’ve got you!
The day was organised around 4 Conference Sessions, various LIVE-demo and of course Networking 🫱🏻🫲🏼
Some take-aways:
▪️According to Roland Berger, only a fraction of the announced European 🇪🇺 #Gigafactory will be realised and successful in the market
▪️Scale-up 📈 but even more importantly lowering Scrap-level ❌ is challenging. Manufacturing Suppliers with #Battery production experience are Keys
▪️ACC - Automotive Cells Company insists on speeding up production ↗️ rather than continuing line-demo 🎓
▪️Laser Welding 🎆 is used at many stages of Lithium Cell 🔋 Manufacturing (Tab, Can, Venting, etc.) and associates accuracy, reproducibility, low contamination, speed, etc.
▪️Laser Welding is also used in many Battery Pack Components such as the Battery Cooling plate 🔲, the trail structure, etc.
▪️For the Chassis and Car Body 🚗, #Gigacasting (Tesla, etc.) is definitely a major trend (Thomas Ausmann, Gestamp,…) in which Metal quality ⚛️ such as Steel (ArcelorMittal …) and Laser Welding and laser Cut play crucial roles
▪️Laser Welding machines 🎆 are evolving combining modern Technologies such as automatic visual inspection 👀, high automatisation but also #AI 🧠
▪️Laser Applications in #Automotive 🚘 are not limited to Welding, they also support many production methods (part cutting, cleaning, etc.) but also enable many New technologies such as metal coating or #3Dprinting
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions 📩
Thanks Daniel Maier and Jeanette Thumm from Trumpf for inviting me
Why and how do we study vibrations 🔋〰️ on #Battery Cells / Modules and Packs?
In this video, software analysis 💻 for the long module test is from Siemens Mobility while the full #Electric Vehicle Battery Pack 📦 Test was filmed at Emitech Group 🇫🇷
Of course in addition of this quick introduction, there are many different vibration tests depending on your homologation target (🇪🇺🇨🇳🇰🇷🇮🇳…)
And of course vibration tests are only a part of the #EV Battery Tests 📑
Do not hesitate if you have any questions, I have got a full review of Battery Testing and homologation
How is made this #Battery Cooling Plate? 🤔 Is that brazed? No… it fully #Laser Welded 🎇
Today I am busy at #AutomotivePhotonics organised by TRUMPF and I cannot wait to see the live-demo of this huge Cooling Plate 🔲 for #EV being welded
Do not worry, I am collecting many cool videos 🎞️ and information on Laser Welding Applications for #Battery 🔋 and #Electric Technologies 🚗⚡️ and Manufacturing
Thanks Daniel Maier for your time and your explanation yesterday and thanks Trumpf for inviting me 🙏🏻
This is the Xiaomi Super Colossal #Press able to apply 9,100 tons weight for the “HyperCasting" of their #EV Parts 🚗⚡️
This is even bigger than the 9,000 tons IDRA presses used by Tesla 🤯
Xiaomi even claims that the machines are actually capable of delivering 9,500 tons of clamping force 💪🏻
Xiaomi has self-developed its own Aluminium alloy which doesn’t require heat treatment ♨️❌, the “Xiaomi Titan Metal” (CN117327949A)
According to Xiaomi, the alloy is excellent in die-casting performance, mechanical properties, durability, recyclability, economy, and it also adds 40% recycled aluminium ♻️
Cannot wait to discover more about their detailed #Battery and eMotor technologies as well as all their manufacturing processes, exciting time 😍!

#Battery Pack assembly 📦 presents many ch allenges not only on the cells manufacturing 🔋 themselves but also on their Packaging and thermal management 🌡️
In this video, you will find some examples where #Laser tools 🎆 and various production methods are used by TRUMPF for helping #EV Battery Pack Assembly such as::
▪️ Undertray protection 🟦 with partial reinforcement by laser metal deposition or laser-welding of high-tensile materials
▪️ Light but resistent Battery frame 🔲 for crashworthiness 💥🚗 often requiring flangeless connections that can be obtained by various methods
▪️ Cooling ❄️ & Heating ♨️ systems (Plate heat exchangers, pipes, punch press profiles…)
▪️Busbars 🖇️ and HV Connections Electrical connections ⚡️for which Laser is a very energy-efficient welding approach
▪️Battery Cells 🪫, Modules, and many more…
I look forward to learning many new things next week at the #AutomotivePhotonics event. Thanks TRUMPF for inviting me 💌

🎆 Counting days and cannot wait ❤️
Love my #Automotive B-pillar Chocolate ❤️
You clearly can see the difference in structure between the Milk chocolate designed with a High ductility to maximise the Energy Absorption
And the Dark chocolate with a higher strength to minimise Intrusion
I am not sure about its exact Hot Stamping process but it does not seem reinforced enough to survive my love for chocolate 🥰🍫
🐰Happy Easter Everyone 🚘
We hear a lot 🗣️ about #AI Applications in #Automotive but except some OEMs integrating ChatGPT 🤖 in their cars (Volkswagen with CARIAD, Stellantis, etc.) what other user experiences can offer Artificial Intelligence?
Here are examples coming from a Chinese supplier called SenseAuto
I have tested their driving assistant for #ADAS 🛞 with attention monitoring or health check. For example, here the car followed my heartbeat 🫀 deduced from the movement of my chest (value confirmed by my Apple Watch ⌚️)
I was also happy to customise a virtual friend with you I could honestly talk much more 👩🏽💬👩🏻 than some humans (at least I felt better than at school parents’ meeting!)
Of course not everything is perfect and there is still a long way to go but there are things working perfectly! 😀 For example, I was very impressed to see how accurate my age was (28?) with this AI 😜
