Volunteer Experience

  • Committee Chair

    Scouts BSA Troop 43

    Education

I volunteer with Scouts BSA and am the Committee Chair of Troop 43, in Larkspur and Corte Madera, CA. I also volunteer time on Marin Council and adjacent council causes like National and World Jamboree committees.

In addition to enabling outdoor adventure for our scouting youth, and completing multiple community service projects each year, I take pride in developing the character and abilities of future generations of leaders via scouting methods.

I was a teaching assistant for students in Amazon’s inaugural User Experience Design and Research Apprentice Program.

This is a year long internship and on-the-job training program inside Amazon for UX candidates with an unconventional background and education. Upon successfully completing the training program each student has a guaranteed job as a junior designer for Amazon products and services.

We execute curriculum created by School of Visual Concepts and tailored to Amazon’s “peculiar” UX culture. We focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion with our initial cohort, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to see the passion and creativity these student apprentices bring to our workplace every day.

I have had the privilege of volunteering as an instructor for Inneract Project several times - both at Autodesk, and now at Amazon. In both cases I have acted as both a subject matter expert in design, as well as the official event photographer, documenting the students journey.

Inneract Project is an amazing organization that exposes underserved youth to the working environment of professional technology companies like Amazon and many others.

During a week long immersive boot camp, students learn the full UX design process in a hands-on format. Student teams tackle a design challenge and put their creativity on display in a culminating presentation to their friends and family on the final day of the camp.

It’s fun to see the students creativity. In many cases the kids never even knew the field of UX existed prior to the camp. It is immensely fulfilling to know that we’ve helped open a door to a possible career direction for them.

    Science and Technology

As an ambassador for the Autodesk Gallery I have the privilege of introducing the public to many examples of the world changing design that Autodesk customers create with our technology.
