About us
CivicSpark is an AmeriCorps program dedicated to building capacity for local public agencies to address community resilience issues such as climate change, water resource management, housing, and mobility. CivicSpark is a program of CivicWell. Each year, CivicSpark recruits 100+ Fellows to build local public agency capacity throughout the state for 11 months. During their service year, CivicSpark Fellows implement a needed sustainability and resilience project, while also building long-term capacity to ensure the work is sustained after their service year is completed. Local public agencies receive dedicated project support from enthusiastic emerging professionals who receive professional development and sector training. Local benefits include: - Direct support for specific resiliency project needs with defined outcomes. - Increased capacity for sustainable communities and response community resilience needs. - A pipeline for future resiliency efforts. - Stronger State-local partnerships for information and expertise exchange. - A workforce with local expertise in climate change, energy, water, or social issues. - Access to affordable resources, resulting in increased capacity and hands-on training. - Increased volunteerism at the local level.

Kelly was also joined by standout members and leaders from Mile High Youth Corps and CivicSpark - AmeriCorps Program including MHYC CEO Kia Abdool. American Climate Corps is launching their new website, featuring nearly 2,000 positions located across 36 states, DC, and Puerto Rico! Fellow Spotlight Friday! 🌟 Lindsay Erdmann was born and raised in Oxnard, California, and graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a BS in Environmental Studies. During her free time, she can be found volunteering at the Channel Islands Marine and Wildlife Institute, reading books, out hiking, or playing Stardew Valley. Serving the City of Carpinteria as a CivicSpark Fellow, Lindsay helps organize and facilitate outreach events regarding food recovery, solid waste, and water quality. So far in her fellowship, she has helped the City organize many events, some of which include: Creek Week, Pumpkin Smash, Carpinteria Community Clean-Up Day, and upcoming Composting Workshops and restoration events. We're hiring! The Strategic Growth Council is excited to serve as a CivicSpark host for the 2024-25 service year. This project will support efforts to develop energy infrastructure on neighborhood-level resilience centers to provide shelter and resources during climate and other emergencies. The project aims to advance social equity through a holistic approach to building community resilience that combines a comprehensive set of infrastructure upgrades, service delivery, and supportive programming developed and implemented in partnership with neighborhood residents. CivicSpark Partner Applications Are Open Through June 7! bit.ly/civicsparkpartner Each year, CivicSpark recruits Fellows through a highly competitive application process. Fellows spend 11 months embedded in government agencies and community organizations, serving 1,400 hours implementing a needed sustainability and resilience project, while also building long-term capacity to ensure the work is sustained after their service year. According to an independent evaluation, organizations that participate in CivicSpark are 5 to 15 times more likely to achieve their project goals than organizations that don’t have a Fellow.
