When i first played this game, it lost my intrest quickly, the game control was maybe not so good, but if you get into the game it is pretty good game and also not a super hard game. You do need to learn the levels how to go through them quickly if you want to finish the game because the game uses an overall timer. For making the game, they used a camera to record the body movement of a person, if you look at the characters in the game, they are moving/animating pretty good, even with lower colors and resolution.

I realise this is a well-loved classic, and I do get enjoyment out of playing it from time to time, but I'm afraid the controls on the Amiga version really are stodgy. I'm the lucky owner of both a real A1200 and a real Atari STE (both bought at car boot sales for pennies in 2002) so I have the choice of playing it on either. Jumps from ledges are all too temperamental and the fight scenes can be unresponsive. It's frustrating enough that I choose to play it on FS-UAE rather than the real A1200 because it becomes essential to have access to a “save state”. The character controls on the ST version are much more fluid, more responsive and less frustrating (unfortunately the bright blue/yellow colour palette is headache inducing and a completely inexplicable choice. And of course the sound could be coming straight out of a Spectrum). As for the graphics, I realise that this game was always much more about playability than fancy graphics (and that's how it should be), but I do think they could easily have pushed the visuals on the Amiga version a little more. As an aside I've seen on Youtube longplays of the 1992 Sharp X68000 version (very pretty) and the 1992 Macintosh version (surprisingly pretty - much better than the VGA version which was common at the time). I do have good memories of playing the PC version in the early 90s because there seemed to be a pirated copy on every other PC at school (!).

Although hugely innovative in many ways, I don't think much of this. As a game it was far too clunky, with a lack of action, sluggish motion and too many unforseeable deaths, and (perhaps less importantly) an element of cultural misappropriation in the setting too. Only lasts about half an hour from start to end as well. Classics like Flashback and Tomb Raider may not have existed without it, so it's worth playing for historical value alone, although to be honest I was never hugely wowed by either of those either.

A perfect game. Probably the best ever made. Just wish there was a cyberpunk version of this one, where the swords was exchanged with light sabers. So complex, so elegant, so addictive.

Relatively simple graphics and sound but executed so brilliantly. A timeless classic on the Amiga.

I completed this game three times (2x on Amiga500, 1x on PC). Great character animation, cool atmosphere and story, gameplay at the highest level. Modest but quite good sound. For me: awesome.

This was and remains first class in all respects. I don't think it was as hard as some people suggest (and I find some games very hard). I completed it at the time, and again recently on iOS, but perhaps I just like it so much that I persevered. It belongs on the pantheon with Another Word and Flashback.
Update: Oops - the version I completed was actually on my Dad's PC. Exactly the same game but with save game options - no wonder I found it easier than others here!

An all-time classic from Jordan Mechner. The animation was ahead of it's time. It was quite a challenge to complete it but it was doable unlike some of the games of that era.

Absolutely superb. Watching our hero just move about at the time was a revelation. So smooth and realistic. Great game.

Real classic. When I saw it first time on Amiga, my relationship to C64 has changed...

A stone cold classic. It grabbed you firmly by the jugular and submerged you deep within the game's world. The constant adrenaline rush of never knowing what was around the corner added a realistic, tangible dimension to the game along with the echoey sound effects. Your heart skipped a beat each time you slipped from a ledge, and each tiptoe through the choppers. Took us ages to figure out all those years ago, with the only disappointment being that there weren't another ten or so levels to plough through. Terrific stuff. 10/10 from me.

A timeless classic and an absolutely indelible landmark in the history of computer games. Animation like none other could present at the time, nice graphics and sound, excellent level design, a great back story, great sword play gaming, I'm actually running out of superlative adjectives to qualify this. I remember that back in the time this was the closest you got to actually "play a movie" or "live an adventure book story" or something like that. Major kudos to Jordan Mechner.

A classic. I actually played this first on the PC at college, more often than not many students use to boot it up before class for a quick go. It wasn't until later I played it on the Amiga, which I did manage to complete it on. Excellent graphics, motion capture, sound and gameplay. There was a part on level 3 where you had to string a number of jumps together to reach a door covered with spikes below, such a classic moment. The mirror sequence I remember fondly too. Great game design at it's very finest, this along with Flashback are my favourite platformers for the Amiga. Both equally as good as each other. I always ask myself which is better, but I never end up with a conclusion. I would also recommend the Snes remake too, not too shabby if I do say so! Great game and still fun even now.

A true classic and great on almost every platform. I usually play the SNES or the Sega Genesis version, though.

I consider the game of my life, play on PC VGA, Amstrad PC sinclair & Amiga, I remember met this game on computer classes, the teacher left to play a few minutes before the class is over
At the time I asked my father to buy but didn´t know the name of the game because in the classroom computers have a version with always appear a screen with some crack or sponser...anyone remember that version...?
well, I loved the realistic movements of prince, love hanging platforms and swing , was a very addictive game and a great classic that will never be forgotten...

I played this game to the end and it was fantastic. I remember all my friends (almost all were Persians in a country with Persian people ) like it too much. I think it is very similar to another world, and perhaps another world can be considered as the sci-fi version of this game.

I remember reading rave reviews on this one, but never got the game. Years later, I played it in emulation and was really impressed by the atmosphere--and the tricky difficulty of control. It is similar in style to some of the Delphine house games. As I read through the reviews, this observation was borne out by others more expert than me. Prince is categorized as 'Adv-Misc'--it looks like a platformer to me. At any rate, I didn't get very far in this game, but it didn't matter much--whether you stick with it and finish, or get knocked out, you'll enjoy this one.
Prince is, among some others of this type, one of the 'required' games, if you're into Amiga games--

This is my first amiga game. And I love it. Very easy graphic but great animation and sound effects (for the 1991 ). This game is the open-door of several others great games like Flash Back and Out Of This World. I remember that it was a great thing to play the game by night.. bwhuahua..

The fact that they are still making versions of this game even today prove how good it was! The gfx were simple in their way but had a nice style to them, and the levels were tricky but enjoyable... But i cant say i ever felt compelled to finish it.

Finally finished this one today! Took me several months. It's a bit brutal and the jumps are crazy at times. Not a big fan of starting all the way at the start of a level if you screw up. Takes a lot of patience and persistence to finish this one. Good atmosphere and game play for the most part. With all the hype I expected a little more but its still above par. 8/10 Haywire

One of the best games in gaming history . 10/10 without a doubt. I can't think of anything more to write about this masterpiece . The only think that i ever wanted is for an Amiga version of prince of persia 2 but OK i played the PC version .

In game history prince is what mozarts jupiter symphonie is in music history. Kids(literally) will prefer flashback etc. Which is more fun but they would unlikely be able to master prince. What is so challenging about prince? Hard to tell (not the controlling for sure; indeed its the most precise controll i ever encountered in platformgames, due to its excellent degree of abstraction, after some exercise you will forget about it and begin playing, which for example is impossible in games like flashback or another world where now and then there arises another situation in which you suddenly have to concern about the handling in a technical way)

I think it's interesting so many complain about the player control on so many Amiga games. I'm not mocking, usually it's valid. But for me joystick control was nearly always something I took as part of the challenge. This one was just such a game. After many many hours of play, I got used to the control and did pretty well. Certainly never got close to finishing it. But it was sure as hell fun trying. I love the hell out of the sword duels, and as someone already said, the atmosphere of this game was terrific, made me want to watch an old movie in the same genre. I'd forgotten about the nifty cut scenes. Great stuff. Reminded me of one of my favs Karateka (sic?) on C64.
9/10-a fav. Very smart game. Classic.

The animation was ahead of its time, just like Impossible Mission on the C64. The puzzles were hard, but not enough to thwart interest in the game. The innovative "cut" sequences added cinematic tension to the quest.
Classic adventure. I just tried playing it for the first time in probably 15 years and my gamepad can't hold a candle to the old-fashioned one-stick, one-button joystick!

Adventure game??? I guess it's not so much one of them, since the main goal is to finish all levels in 60 minutes, and I wouldn't have liked that game at all if it was an adventure game since I don't like them lol. Not the kind of game I prefer but definitely a more than OK one. Worth a try at least. And 10,000 times better than the crappy next-gen-typical-zelda-style- adventure-game "sequels" that this franchise got on the latest consoles... Oh well as usual.

It still rules on cellphones and PDAs, and there's a reason why. It is simple, captivating, has a quite remarkable atmosphere. In early 90s you simply couldn't believe how smooth the animation was. Timeless classic.

What's with the animation and control in the Amiga version? It's worse than the PC version, which makes this one really frustrating to play.
Prince of Persia is a fantastic game and one of the two most important platformers ever (the other being Super Mario Brothers, of course), but it has a fair share of flaws. The control is a little difficult even in the PC version and the traps can be a little unfair. But still, this game is a classic.
7/10. Too bad this port is not nearly as good as the PC version.

A simple but challenging game. The deaths were a bit graphic - especially the chop. Not always action-packed but that only added to the build-up of a good sword fight or a quick run-and-jump awaiting you on the next screen.

Aaaah, yes.. Prince of persia. Baffling animations, good graphix and OK sound - and an amazing feeling of isolation. I remember the frustration of falling to my death for the 5th time at the same place, after spending 15 minutes of maze and trap negotiation to get there. Made me want to start hurting myself.
I also remember allmost puking the first time I saw the prince getting chomped in half by the slamming steel jaws

I've always had mixed feeling towards Prince of Persia. Being a Persian myself, I never liked the fact that the game title had Persia in it and presented it so in-accurately. The first thing I loathed about it was the army-soup-thin-totally-stereotyped plot. The names chosen were not Persian, Jaffar for example. In Persia (now Iran) the kings were called "Shah", not "Sultan". None of the characters looked Persian either, not the main guy nor the princess or the 'Mullah's you have to fight. It seemed they created a game about Persia but totally based it on Arab culture. It was obvious that Mr.Mechner did not do his research prior to making this game.

Just simply one of the best games on the Amiga, and look where the franchise is today, spending millions of the actual game concept itself on next gen consoles. Who would have thought eh. Why not do the same with some of the classics on the Amiga. Monkey Island, Flashback, Another World and so on

Brill! I remember Karateka on the ole 64 when I see this one. Superb animation of the sprites and really tricky puzzle elements made this a "one more go" game. It was difficult in places but by no means frustrating.... Well, maybe slightly.

I hated this game a lot. Sure the animation was nice but the game was a pain to play. Sluggish, unrepsonsive control that made ya have to plan every move 5 seconds before, which wasn't possible due the flick screen 'scrolling' which saw ya fall off platforms onto spikes without warning. Terrible game but did pave the way for Another World and Flashback, and the recent Prince of Persia console games such as the beautifully done Sands of Time.

The rotoscoped animation and stylish levels drew you in but this type of 'trial-and error'/sequence learning gameplay isn't my thing.

This game had incredible animation with fluid motion unlike most of the other games at the time. The fencing sequences was also balanced. You really felt in control of the character instead of randomly pushing the button in hope of hitting your opponent.

An unbeatable classic, no doubt about it. Innovative graphics (ok, Mechner already did the same with Karateka on C64, but Prince of Persia sensibly raised the quality of the animations), great gameplay, faultless level design and loads of atmosphere meant this was a masterpiece, nothing less.

I love the style of this true classic. It raised the bar for animation in games. Without this title I don't think we would have wonderful games like Flashback, Black Thorne and the amazing Oddworld games.

Another true classic. Thankfully the game design for this type of game evolved and the block level design of Flashback finally solved the irritating baby step process you had to constantly use to avoid running off of cliffs in this game. But still a revolution for it's time and still fun today.

Fluid animation, a great platform game which obviously inspired Another World and later Flashback.
If I remember correctly the author actually filmed his brother running around and jumping in his apartment and converted these videos into the sprites.
The only pain with this game was sometimes you just fell down the wrong hole and died, with no warning of the danger below.
