Hard as nails towards the end but I somehow completed it. Incredibly addictive and the learning curve is steady but when things do ramp up you'll often wonder if a level is even possible to complete.

Lemmings should be in the Strategy/Puzzle genre IMO. It's one of the most popular strategy games on the Amiga.

Then you get some levels like as mentioned below "We all fall down" and you just get your teeth curb stomped. The level difficulty is all over the place too and is why I had to give it a 7/10, But everything I just said? I still think every puzzle game player should play this version as it's the best looking and sounding.

Not a 10 for me, because of four words - We All Fall Down. The most irritating, unfair, badly designed and plain old masochistic level ever - and barely a quarter of the way in. 40 perfect clicks required in succession, miniscule margin for error, one mistake ruins it. That one's better on the 8-bit versions with only 20 Lemmings maximum per level, actually.
Otherwise great stuff, hugely original and varied, with a nice mix of puzzle-solving and precise reflexes needed, and lovely presentation (I knew 'O Little Town of Bethlehem' before the game, but to my ears this rendition is the definitive version - nothing else quite sounds the same now). I started it again from the beginning a few years ago, reached Tricky level 20-something (got stuck on 'Form the Boundary Line' for ages, finally solved that, next one was easy enough, now stuck on the one after - it's sat there for a while). My head says Lemmings 2 is better, but my heart says this is.

After accidentally finding the Psygnosis Lemmings demo floppy from 1991 I started my Amiga 500, put the floppy in and finished the demo levels followed by finishing all Lemmings 1 levels on "Taxing" difficulty. I have not played it for almost 30 years but it did not lose anything from its beauty. It it is an amazing game from the Golden era.

"Lemmings" is a game that will never get you bored. 120 levels bring so much fun in figuring out how to guide little rodents from point A to point B. Simple idea, simple execution, excellent visuals and amazing music. A classic game.

Ahh memories of that Christmas morning opening a fresh new A500+ with a bundled copy of Lemmings. I don't think I played anything else for weeks. An iconic game that spawned a few too many sequels, so many even DMA got sick of it by the end, but the original is a classic.

Only the first few levels were even possible IMO! From then on it was cheats, cheats and more cheats only. Great game, very original idea at the time, but spoiled by all those impossible levels.

I must be one of the few Amiga fans that never actually liked this game, and while appreciate what it did for the Amiga as a platform, helped to sell many A500s no doubt and sold by the bucketload as a game, it just didn't hook me like it did for so many others.
I played through maybe the 1st half a dozen levels and turned it off, I've tried many times since and felt the same, Lemmings to me is a great game that I simply didn't like if that makes sense.
Altho i think they got carried away with trying to milk it for all it was worth with all the addon packs and extra games.

I bought this game for my first Amiga computer (A600) and what a first game! Awesome intro animation that really sets the tone for the amazingly addictive multi-level gameplay. Every Amiga owner should have this in their collection, its perfection 10/10

I wanted this so much when the "Cartoon Classics" pack was in the shops. I remember watching my brother playing it in Dixons. I did get it eventually for Christmas (Lemmings, not the Cartoon Classics pack) although in reality I was probably a bit too young at the time to really appreciate it (I had no idea what all the critics meant when they said it was 'original') and secretly preferred Sonic the Hedgehog on the Megadrive my brother got the same Christmas.
In hindsight, I can see how original it was, and it is one game you could argue has not aged at all. It was so perfect that any changes made for the sequels, while very good games in their own right, necessarily detracted from the beautiful simplicity of the game.

Don't have much else to add that hasn't already been said in previous comments. A true classic of the Amiga and its the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about the Amiga. Its tunes and sound effect have been ingrained in my heart and will never forget them!
Still very playable today and there is still nothing quite like it.

This is the game that no Amiga should be without. Lemmings enter a level at one end and it's the player's job to help them scramble their way to the exit. This game rings out with professional chime. The difficulty curve is infinitely smooth. A game you can really trust to entertain you. The levels get very challenging, but you just know you're destined to complete them all. Few games have so much character and suck you in like Lemmings does. Walking an army rodents has never been so much fun!

Lemmings are well balanced, highly innovative and challenging.

Your goal is to herd the lemmings to the exit before they die or the time runs out! Probably one of the most unique platform games out there, you can assign various roles to each lemming, such as digging, blocking, and parachute. The soundtrack is whimsical and fun, just like the game. This is one game everyone should play! 10/10.

Always was fond of the Lemmings, though I did find it difficult or shall I say 'tricky' or 'mayhem'. Clever design, with a special mention to old Psygnosis amiga games being made into a Lemming puzzle within the game. Such a wonderful idea, great level design, great characterisation with suitable music to match. Addictive gameplay which is both rewarding and frustating at the same time. Recommended!

The original and best. A true classic. Maddeningly frustrating at times, but so well designed. I remember having sheets of paper covered in the long passwords for each level. (I can also boast that I completed the game. I wonder how many people are in that club?)

Pure genious. This is one of the most original and inspiring games ever. You get totally addicted to it. Some levels are so tricky that you get truly mad at them! And my heart had a leap when I saw the levels reproducing the environment of other Psygnonis games (Awesome, Shadow Of The Beast, Menace)! Ah, the good ol' days...

Truly inspirational - this game was so ahead of its time when released and is still a delight to play.
The one player levels stretch your brain in a good way and soon become fiendishly taxing. Yet no matter how hard, there is always a logical solution and it is immensely satisfying when you crack a level that has been thwarting you for ages.
The two player split screen mode meanwhile is one of the best multiplayer experiences I have ever played on any platform. As the levels progress the paths you must guide your lemmings along becomes more and more intertwined with that of your opponent.
To begin with friendly cooperation reigns.
Soon the odd accident begins occurring - "sorry, I didn't mean to dig a hole in your bridge...".
Before long pleasantries are forgotten and outright war begins taking over with the survival rate plummeting as you and your opponent become more preoccupied with revenge and sabotage of each others Lemmings, than with the rescue of your own! The cries of dozens of poor little souls ring out as the casualty rate on both sides soars as bucket loads of hapless Lemmings get blown up, trapped or plunge to their doom...
If you have never played Lemmings you really must. If you had the privilege of playing Lemmings first time around, now is your chance to experience this gem again!

I once did my very own 'Amiga Top 100' games list and this was rated at number 2 (Speedball 2 was at number 1). Damn fantastic game and one of the very few true originals I can think of.

I really like the whole Lemmings series, although I still think that this game probably has the best level designs. The difficulty ranges between levels, but this is nicely done as it starts off incredibly easy while the later levels are very difficult!
This game can be very frustrating but is a great challenge and really puts your brainpower to the test. It takes a lot of patience to get through this game, but as long as you keep track of your level passwords then that makes things a lot more manageable.
The 2-player mode is a lot of fun. I remember my dad buying an extra mouse for our Amiga just so we could play 2-player! It was worth it.
The graphics are quite nice (the animation especially) and well textured, and the music is unforgettable - in a good way! The sound effects are great too.
This game was unique and original when it first came out too. It's just as replayable today as it was in 1991 and it really is the definition of an Amiga classic.

Nice one. I just introduced Lemmings to my daughter (she is 8 Jears old) and she loved the little ones. The game is definitely fun for half an hour or an hour. I still like it. Not one of my alltime favourites but a good one.

How I happily listened to my opponent's lemming's death cries that fell into my cunning traps, just to find out (too late) that the opponent was even more cunning and I wasa hearing my own lemmings...

A true classic, and arguably the best game ever to grace the amiga. Very rarely we see gameplay, presentation, mood, graphics, music and sound effects compliment each other in such a perfect way. And since the core of the game are the mostly brilliant puzzles it holds up very nicely even today.
I must admit I _still_ regularly listen to the Lemmings tunes.
Edit: Forgot to mention the insanely entertaining two player mode. Unfortunately I only got to try this a couple of times due to the need of two mice, but what a blast.

So much fun. This is probably the first game I played that made me really think! Unique in that there were often several different ways one could win a level. And if you lost, the game became more fun when you double-clicked the "nuke" button. 5... 4... 3... 2... 1...
So cool. Lemmings 2 was even better, but I loved the music in the first one more. 10.0 for being a truly original game. An all-time classic for sure!

The Lemmings is actually the best Amiga game not since Ruff n' Tumble. I played this game game till the cows came home, and even enjoyed most of the music from this game though some tunes are actually repetitive, but let's not make that a downside anyways.

I played this game when it came out and I remember it blew every one away who played and rightly so!!
The gameplay, the music, the atmosphere, the humour, the graphics everything went along in this gem!
The sheer satisfaction of completing a level on the highest difficulty setting was enough for me to keep coming back.

Love it or hate it there's no disputing the quality and originality. I was certainly a member of the 'love it' community and played it for hours. Music was fantastic and, when all else failed, nuking all your poor little guys was fun too! 10/10

I think this was probably one of the first truely addictive platform puzzle games. Atleast, out of all the ones I've ever played. Alot of fanfare surrounded this title. I loved it alot. I didn't bother with the sequels though.

Lemmings, Lemmings and lots of Lemmings, where do this cute one's coming from? I always love to play this game. When I first try playing it was quite difficult, but few years after I got the hang of it. I was figuring out how to get them home by using these tools below, and it actually worked. But the levels ahead gets harder and harder. Fantastic game to play, very good graphics, nice music and sounds. By the way these Lemmings sort of reminds me of the cartoon series called the Smurfs, accept that they don't have there hats on and their hair is green, and the way they look, well bit the same, but with Smurfs they where white pants and these Lemmings where blue one's, but they sort of look like the Smurfs still, don't ask me why, but they do.

Classic in every sense of the word. I first encountered Lemmings prior to its release in a coverdisk that had a demo with a few different levels in it. I played those few levels for hours, and bought the game the instant it came out.
Original, imaginative, cruel, hilarious, fiendish, clever and fun as hell. Although they milked the concept for all it was worth (and then some), the original is still a masterpiece and worth playing today.

One of the few examples of a game that ages dignity. The atmosphere, the music, the challenge, the controls, its still all just perfect. I miss this kind of game on my PS2 and I miss psygnosis. Though, Rockstar Games that makes Grand Theft Auto, used to be DMA? Right?

Great game, back then it was one of a kind. Very original gameplay and fun to do. Nowadays I still like to upload the game once in a while and revive old times. This game took me occupied for days and days and still does. I very much like to see the whole bunch wandering into the fire because you forgot to put that one but important blocker next to the avalanche. Usually I´m not in to this kind of puzzling-game but Lemmings being unique in it's league has opened my eyes.

While I am a big burned out on the Lemmings concept today, this was truly a breath of fresh air in1991. No game had ever offered anything like this, the dozens of animated lemmings on screen, the fun little animation, the brain wracking puzzles (a friend had a white board and we would draw out the maps and try to figure out solutions, while pulling all nighters on the game). Truly a milestone in game history, and birthed on the Amiga.

You couldn't love a game more than I do Lemmings. The best game in the world! First played it on a friends ST back in 1992 then got it on my Amstrad and when I got an Amiga, I got Lemmings for it! I always make sure I have a copy on whatever machine I have - I even downloaded a Spectrum emulator for my Psion Series 5 just so I could play it and I even play it on the gameboy
