Very good adventure strategy game. It is abit of a fun to seek out all the sietches and cities on the map. Game was based on a book and it has a very good story about a family that needs to mine spice from the ground, only to be found on the planet Dune and is a high value resource. You play the hero Paul Atreides, fighting against the evil Harkonen. Your need to send the spice to the emperor. You get a deadline to do so, if you are not in time you die in the game.. The trick is to progress in the game some what quick and use harvestors. The game is actually easy to complete..

One of the greatest Amiga game for me. The music is very atmospheric and the graphics are very well converted to thé Amiga palette . Much better than the Mega CD version I've also bought later.

I really enjoyed Dune. The look was very classy and close to the David Lynch film, and I liked the mix of adventure and strategy game. I had just devoured the book (triggered by Dune 2) and was blown away by a, shall we say, more faithful implementation of its plot into a game.
At first I solved the game without finishing the adventure part. Yes, it worked: if you used the Fremen cleverly, you could win without going through all the scripted events. But it was really hard and only possible with varioud tactical retreats. Pretty cool.
Only later did I realise that the game could be solved in a more elegant way....

What strikes me from today's point of view is that Dune was a similar mix like one of my other favorite games, Lords of Midnight. Only that in Dune, the adventure part is much more developed and there is no free exploring a map.

As others have said before me, it’s well worth re-visiting Dune today. The game has aged pretty decently and the lack of modern adventure games makes it a hidden treasure to be found and enjoyed!

An absolute must, i agree the amiga verion hs something very special. I especially like the way cryo adapted the story in a game , it's deep , clever and beautiful. The disk swap may be a bit annoying but, since i lost my real amiga and use win uae ( what a pain), i can avoid that problem.

whatever, whatever is your favorite kind of game, i bet you'll like this one!

This actually the best version ever in my opinion, it has aged better than the others. The visuals are slightly worse than on PC, but the music is so much better (even better than the CD rom version)!

Dune... It captivated me ever since I saw that Virgin logo changing into the Cryo one. From the excellent artistic direction to the effort towards some pretty original gameplay (yet with its fair share of compromise I should say), it had most of the distinctive traits of early Cryo productions - that is, before they also ventured into publishing. Back then even a smooth day/night cycle or a short animation were stuff to dream of. Or should I mention the great tunes, some even outdo the Spice Opera album versions... Too bad there were only three here - Ecolove, Free Men and Sign of the Worm - and the absence of "Chani's Eyes" is unpardonable

It does take some inspiration from the David Lynch film, from Kyle McLachlan's likeness to a few narrative liberties (read 'weirding modules'); and much like the movie, it's an imperfect game that I can't stop loving. They managed to draw quite a thin line between adventure and strategy that somehow works.

So what keeps Dune away from the perfect score? Well, in the end it's more linear than it wants you to believe it is. The game constantly sends signals to the player hinting at the right order to do things, and if you follow that order and heed the advice of every NPC when they give it to you, you'll eventually find out you've beaten the game with little effort. This policy was later taken to an extreme in Lost Eden, for instance. Still it didn't keep me from playing it through several times over.

Still a bit underrated amiga game which remains in the shadow of its sequel.

Dune is very unique game which interestingly mix elements of adventure, strategy and simulator (flying an ornicopter and riding a worm). The adventure part of a game is unfortunately very linear but returns us to the book and to the Lynchs movie, the strategy part completely changes the game scheme and pulls us into a maelstorm of battle of Arrakis!

This game is awesome, a masterpiece of art. I loved the music, the graphics, the intriguing story behind arrakis... I had to read the book of frank herbert and watch the film inspired by this amazing game. A classic!

I was very impressed with this game even though I never did get a long way into it. I'd play games inspired by it to a much further degree: C&C (of course), Warcraft especially...but not Starcraft. I liked the medievel setting of Warcraft and it's sequel better. Never got into the Warcraft ONline stuff.

As much as Dune is a compelling adventure/strategy hybrid, it's also an example of a game as an artform. Ethereal atmosphere with stylized visuals and spaceous music draws you deep into the planet Dune to battle rival Harkonnens over the precious spice. This kind of immersion is rare even for today. Modern platforms with their photorealistic graphics and other reality-mimicing assets can't succeed in what a hand-crafted French game did back in 1992.

That's not to say the only strength of the game is in its audiovisual quality. The adventure segment carrying the intriguing story is well-crafted and user-friendly and while the strategy part could have used some fine tuning in playability, it gets the job done. The games literally drives you on to explore its secrets and you aren't satisfied until you have experienced more and more of it.

Dune is Cryo at its very best and how I want to remember them.

This is another game i haven't played back in the past, but i tryed recently and i found very entertaining, my only complaint is that in the end it felt short, i expected to have some real challenge against the palace of the Harkonnens, so i felt a bit deluded when i had just to enter the palace... And then END GAME. Anyway it was very good to play, and i feel bad for the other girl, she was abandoned... That was sad, the pretty girl kills the not so pretty one...

I played this in french, it added something to the game, it was nice to have the gal talking you sweet in french ahah!

The music is not only awesome in it's own right, it is also one of the very best examples of music complementing the game perfectly, underlining and enforcing an atmosphere not quite like anything else.

The book series is still going on.
I've read them all so far.

Great game, must play. Though it gets a bit easy at some point, exploring the desert on your very own worm is quite fun.

I don't know - in my opinion it was a graphical dazzler. Playing it just a few hours, it becomes very boring...
Nevertheless the graphics and background musics were great...

The perfect "French Touch" game : nice graphics, perfect sound and state of the art story. Once you try it you want to finish it. Once you finish it, you want to finish it again. The kind of game that deserves to enter the computers Hall of fame. There was a before and an after Dune. It changed the face of the computer industry.

An incredible landmark in the videogame scape! One of the first RTS (very primitive) was also an adventure game. And guess what? It rocked! The adventure part makes you FEEL closer to the characters, like in a movie, the epic story makes you FEEL the gravity of the stakes, the graphics and musics make you FEEL like you're on another, distant and harsch world. Yet it has hidden poetry, like its water. One word : Dune.
Yes, when looking at those screens, you can FEEL nostalgic

An interesting genre-bending game that mixes elements of adventure gaming and strategy. The graphics are unique and one of the best visions of Dune I have seen. The music is awesome (Stéphane Picq is an incredible composer) but there are too few songs - the PC port had more. The gameplay is unique, even though the adventure portion is fairly linear and doesn't really contain many puzzles at all.

I can remember the great music. But there was always this sterilely atmosphere. Dune was a big planet to explore (particulary on foot). A cool (hot and dusty ) adventure.

For me this first Dune game is better than the second one. That's because I really liked the adventure part of the game. It rather faithfully follows the book by Frank Herbert. Having to find an army to defeat the Harkonnen and explore the planet was great, new locations popping up left and right as you got to know more people. The graphics are stunning, the music in the game is one of the best soundtracks in any Amiga game and the gameplay ensures hours of fun! For adventure and strategy lovers!

Graphics: 9/10
Sound: 10/10
Playability: 9/10

Ah this one is so nice! Yes Dune II is somewhat better (interest) but this first attempt at porting Dune's world on computer was a real nice surprise. The game is an interesting mix of adventure and strategy. Maybe you won't get back playing it as much as Dune II but it really worth to be finished at least once (and by the way it's not very hard so that wouldn't be too much of a challenge for you pro Amiga gamers).

Some graphics are superb (adventure screens, characters, face, cut scene, etc), there is not much animation there though it's not too important and there is almost no sound FX. On the counter part the musics are fantastic (there is even an audio CD that was released with some orchestral remixes).

Very good, largely above average!

Interesting game with high quality graphics and sound offering a really nice mix of strategy and adeventure. However, the main problem with this game is that sometimes it gets a bit boring. Although the game is absorbing, some of its elements could have been modified. The game is too much linear and the adventure part is far too predictive and quite easy. Nevertheless "Dune" is a game during which you may spend some nice hours of your free time. And undoubtly, it is a classic.

Curious mix of point-and-click graphic adventure and strategy game. The storyline, strong at first, peters-out towards the end of the game when it becomes pretty much pure strategy. The conversion of the graphics from the 256 colour PC originals was pretty good and the music was superb.

Wow, what a game! I loved this to bits and loved the storyline even though it was meant to be strategy formed game it also had adventure elements in the game which made more special. I loved the music and all the GFX in this, a very good game on the Amiga regardless what anyone slates it to be....
