Pretty decent platformer (but quite difficult).

Wow, 6 years since the last comment on Alfred Chicken.
While I agree with Colonel Kurtz' analysis about the harm caused by generic anthropomorphic animal protagonist cutesy platformers to the Amiga market, it doesn't tell the whole story about Alfred Chicken because he did actually receive a conversion to the PS1. So somebody thought it was next-gen material. (And Mega Race wasn't very good.)
I enjoyed this at the time, it seemed better than most platformers, and I nearly played it to completion. But I recall that when I eventually approached the end of the game after hours of careful play, it allowed me to get stuck in a particular cavity where I had inadvertently pecked away the blocks needed to escape. No way out, nothing I could do. That was unforgivable and I could never touch the game again.

Alert! Alert! Generic platform game with a dumb-named anthropomorphic animal as the protagonist ahead!
come on, these are the games that were holding the amiga back until it was left behind both technologically and commercially. I mean, the year this one was out, what were pc users playing? Strike commander, ultima vii, rebel assault, alone in the dark 2, the 7th guest, betrayal at krondor, privateer, megarace, return to zork... And we were getting what? Yeah, right: "alfred chicken", "edd the duck", "wonderdog", "pinkie", "donk the samurai duck", "mr. Blobby", "brian the lion". All quick cash-ins for the general public you could just keep content with yet another platformer. "yeah, but they're well-done", like one would ever have noticed any of them missing...
maybe i would save a few of them, such as robocod, superfrog, mr. Nutz, some arcade conversions like toki or new zealand story... But overall i remain convinced that this genre is the great satan of amiga gaming that almost single-handedly doomed our beloved platform. "alfred chicken" my arse. Sorry guys.

No complaints; a well-put together game.

Cartoony little game with catchy music.
Most of the aspects of this game are only average. The graphics, music quality, sound effects, and is similar to a lot of other platform games. The level design is pretty interesting on a lot of levels though. The controls are simple and easy to get used to, although it's also very easy to get killed too.
Alfred himself is particularly nicely animated, and I personally like the cartoon visual style too. Overall nothing special, but not bad either.

Boring game, with horribly repetitive annoying music.

I remember really, REALLY wanting to play this game when it came out. I finally got to play it last year, albeit in the SNES, and it was truly awful. A true tesiment to the power of persuavive marketing.

Not a bad platformer at all, at least better than Quick & Silva Graphics and sounds are tight average, nothing glamorous but they do the job well. 6/10
